What happened to this place? Why did they close down? Does anyone know?

I don't know for sure why, but I do know that myself and another person got chicken wings there on two separate occasions and both times the meat was cooked spoiled. You could smell it when you opened the bag.

to ggallin, that was just so unnecessary and immature. I eat many kinds of authentic food and you are clueless.

To anywho_1, I did wonder about the quality of the food there. I was doing the virtual tour of the store up for sale and it didn't look too appealing back there in the kitchen.

The place was filthy. It was shut down by the health inspector after repeated warnings because of rats and rat feces in the kitchen and once word of this got out it was history when it re-opened.

When Jong's first opened with Mama Jong & papa Jong, it was a wonderful place to eat. They retired and turned the restaurant over to family. Family refused to hire American workers and nobody could understand the Chinese. You just nodded & pointed. My husband & I went in to dine and were quite surprised at the poor quality of the food. We'd been a customer from the first and absolutely nothing was the same. Business dropped rapidly. They started the buffet with few choices, low temperature & undercooked foods. This was the reason the the initial warnings. When they finally closed the sign said closed due to sick family. Then it said remodeling underway. When the landlord finally realized they weren't coming back people were hired to clean the kitchen. The power had been cut off and all the food & mess they walked out on was still there, nasty as anything I've ever heard about. I pitied the ladies who hauled it all off & cleaned the place up. Somebody could do well if they got them some older, clean chinese people who know what Mama & Papa Jong knew; how to cook great Chinese food. A delivery service would certainly be an added bonus.

Great idea. Thanks for the info. I was really curious about the business and if the building had anything to do with it closing down. I also think we could use a great Chinese or Asian fusion place. Not to say that No.1 China and Dragaon Lair aren't great, just one that had more variety with Thai and Vietnamese. A delivery service is also a great idea.
