They often range from exclusive club to vile hate group, in some ways.
Just saying that they may be the kind of religious nuts who would choose their sky daddy over a human isn't enough.
When a church openly encourages malice toward human beings, they are no longer a church in the true sense.

UPC or UPCI churches are churches you should stay away from. They Deny the Trinity, believing in a Oneness theology. Most the time women/girls can only where long dresses, no make up and not allowed to cut their hair. They believe in baptism by submersion only, baptism in Jesus name only, but wait you're still not saved until after baptism you receive the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues. Then once this happens you are saved. Not allowed to have a TV. They believe that they are the true Apostolic Church and that their faith has the only Full Gospel. In my opinion they are very repressive towards women and go about their faith as very elitist. Thinking that all other Christian sects are basically going to Hell because they are not true christians and we don't have the fullness of faith in a sense. I could go on but I think I paint a pretty good picture. I work with a UPCI member and I as a Practicing Roman Catholic have some interesting debates. Oh yeah that reminds me. This may not be true of all UPCI memebers (hopefully not)but they are taught many lies and misconceptions about that Catholic faith.

Basically they're good folks who are caught up in theological error mixing law, grace and pharasaism,just like a lot of denominations. So I guess the rule of thumb is to determine what is emphasized: if it's not Christ and His birth, death and resurrection , it's probably best to steer clear.

Legalism is heavily practiced in the UPC churches. Some people are very friendly while others act like you're not worthy of sitting in the same restaurant. Speaking of restaurants, they love buffets. If you arrive at Western Sizzlin later than noon on Sunday they have the place packed, and many look like they should really avoid buffets.

That's typical of legalistic practice-- smoking and drinking are anathema, but gluttony is OK.... Legalism is always looking for a loophole.New Covenant Christianity recognizes the finished work of the Cross, obviating the need to look for an "out".

Tvs, cutting hair, smoking all that is a personal choice that is between that person and god, as for making fun of their eating at resturants, really , as for hell, There are guide lines in every church, and the catholics belive you can rape and murder and ask a pervert to help you confess your crime or sin and all is better, christians and there are many beleive in alittle bit of everything, just do enough to get by,as for chosing someone in the sky over a human, doesnt happen. It is usually the ones that reckonize what real religion is that bitch about them the most. I have been to many and they do not encourage hate.

About the UPCI, is it sort of wierd that if you were raised in their church and "have the Holy Ghost" you can later confess to and be imprisoned for molesting children for years, and they say you are a good man going through a trial; however, if you do not go to their church or, worse, if you left there, you will be accused of everything they can think of and considered worse than a pedophiile?
Sorry, I know it is a sickness and no one condones it, it just seems crazy in a cult sort of way that they have this double standard, of sorts. Hate outsiders blindly, love their own blindly...seems almost sick.

Ok maybe some of the Christ bots on this site can 'splain this to me.
Earlier this summer a 20 year old nephew on my ex wife's side was arrested and confessed to molesting a little boy, numerous times for several years.
While he was doing this, he was raising money to go on a foreign missions trip with compassion international. He was reised in a United Pentecostal Church and always wanted to preach.

Now for those of you who haven't thrown up in your mouth yet, here's the kicker. Ever since he has been in jail he has been showered with love frm this church, everyone haas been praying for him, making excuses for him and going to visit him. I have not heard ONE of these christians pention the little boy or express anything but indifference toward the victim.

If you really know me you know it took an act of will to complete that last paragraph without any four letter words.

BTW this is the same group of Christ tards that never welcomed or wanted me in their assembly, or wanted anything to do with me, and do you think they come visit me after I left the fold. bahaahah don't be silly. I am worse to them than this pedophile who was raised in their midst, and my ex's family thinks worse of me too.
These are the people who wouldn't pee on me, or anyone else who leaves the church, if I was on fire unless they could pee gasoline! Defending a pedo.

Hi! First of all as long as someone is still breathing, they are reachable for the gospel. I cannot speak for the UPC church's stand on this issue any more than McDonald's ownership can speak on the type of food served at Burger King. All I know is he did commit a disgusting act, but he is not doomed to hell while he is still alive.

I have no problem with them praying for the offender. I cannot explain the excuses made for him or the lack of need to reach out to the family of the victim, especially if he was a prominent member of their church. At this point, the church needs to recognize that the offender's fate is now in the hands of the legal system all the while approaching the victims family with an apology that one of their prominent members/leaders committed such an act.

At my church we do not justify the actions of anyone who has committed a crime or even simply moral failure but we also do not turn our backs on them. Everyone is accountable for their actions and Christians are held to a higher accountability.

You are always welcome at my church regardless of your background or feelings towards Christianity. Come have a cup of coffee, soda, or OJ, and a donut and enjoy the service. Come dressed casual. Shorts, T shirt, and flip flops, jeans and T shirt, or whatever you like to wear. So come to Cornerstone sometime when you get a chance. Kick back and relax.

Lastly, it states clearly in the Bible that we absolutely cannot judge those not proclaiming Jesus as their savior. All we can do is present the gospel to them and let that person make their own decision. On the ther hand, it's very clear that when a fellow Christian is out of line they are to be rebuked/scolded/checked/judged , whatever you choose to call it. Look at Jesus. He hung out with the least respected people of society and befriend those no one else wanted any association with. We are called to do that. To hang with, and befriend the "weird" people hanging out up town or have a beer and brat at Miners game with your non-Christian neighbor. How else do Christians reach people when they're staying within their own tight circles.

OK first off I want to say I attend a UPC church. I was NOT raised in this church though, I think there has been some valid points made here but instead of bashing these churches why dont you pray for them if you dont think they are right, bashing them isnt going to make a difference and it shows your ignorance. Next I would like to say that I dont agree with all the "ideas" set forth by the UPC actually I dont agree with much they have to say. They are man made rules. So just because someone goes to a certain church doesnt make them a bad person. Catholic priest were molesting little boys for years does that make all Catholics bad people? The UPC has very open worship and that why I go there.
