Just watch, this team played hard tonight, they wanted that win. As we our watching our football program decline along with player interest, we will now see the opposite happen in basketball along with player interest. Mark my word, from what I saw tonight, the interest will be there soon, in two or three years, this town will have great interest on Hawk's basketball program. It think it will be a basketball town in five years. The crowd tonight was disappointing, but Marion fans will have to see that this program is about ready to take over. Great job Cats, you played hard it looks like you wanted that game more than Salem. Marion WINS!

Unlike the football coach, he will be worth every penny. He doesn't make six figures and shown he can compete at the state level recently not years ago. If the parents butt out and the best players play there is no reason we can't compete.

Marion has Goreville's best player coming up, yea, you should be good. Are there any other players you might want out there?

Our football program is declining? I hadn't noticed. I thought going 7-2 in the regular season was a pretty good season. And I also didn't realize that beating a basketball powerhouse such as Salem was going to make us a basketball town. The only way we will ever compete at the state level in any sport is to recruit. which I believe is underway in basketball.

One game, one week, one season does not make a program.

Yes, last night's game was fun to watch and a sign of what is to come, but we need to realize that this new transformation will take some time. I think the team is going to be very fun to watch this year and that the coaches are going to push the players to their maximum potential, but a huge amount of wins may not come so quickly. Looking at the roster and who was playing last night, along with the success at the junior high program, I see promise in the following years. Just wish more fans would show up and support what's going on and what great possibilities there are with this new transformation.
Why?

Why cant we just celebrate our kids at whatever sport, activity they are doing? The football team does great every year, and i hope the basketball team does to, i was even excited that the soccer team almost won state. High school sports/ activities is a celebration of our kids. I think Marion does a great job with all sports/ activities.

Nice win over Mt. Vernon tonight.... Great hustle by the boys. Even if a loss would have came in the book, this Wildcat fan would've been proud. Effort was great. Nice to see a team who rises when adversity hits... haven't seen this since the Backstreet boys were a hit.

I love how all you idiots continue to defend the football coach and program. You all are now in panic mode that someone else has come along to steal Martin's spotlight. What i find really funny is that Hawk will play the best players and doesn't give a crap how much certain parents make a year. He is a proven winner as a player and a coach. He has been mentored by a winner. People will continue to bash him and point out his faults just to make them feel better about their ass kissing buddy Martin. If basketball team wins 15 games it is a victory for Hawk. But if he wins 20 he is the man at MHS. When he accomplishes this then all you bashers will start kissing his ass so that your kids get to play, but guess what, your kids suck and he isn't gonna play them. Finally the church league will not be better then the MHS team. Oh and did i mention, we are not paying Hawk six figures to coach. Last good coach we had for basketball, Jenkins, made it to the super sectionals and lost to 3 time state champion East St. Louis. He did it by playing the best players. Parents butted in because they thought their money was more important then wins and loses. So the fired him. Just curious, the kids of the parents that got Jenkins fired, how did they turn out? You so called experts can surely figure out who i am talking about.

no need to cal out others, but yes, win or lose, I am impressed with what I see.. Kids playing hard and all out, is unheard of in Marion... Surprisingly these players are... Even if they don't win 15 games, I could traveler to every game to watch them play because of their intensity..

Where did someone panic? I personally think it will be great to have two great coaches at Marion such as Hawk and Martin. Both are proven winners. We are lucky to have them.

There is no argument that Coach Martin has not don a geat job with Marion Football. Ticket demand is up, revenue is up, He takes a genuine interest in the players, the school and the community, and he gets good results with little or no negative publicity or trouble. Hawkins will do the Same thing. Orso just took the boys to State in Soccer and was named coach of the year. At teh jr. High they already won two State Titles this year in Baseball and Softball. Marion has made a great deal of progress and will continue to do so. Instead of complaining about it online, show up and support them. Work to make what you have even better. Raise $50.00 for somebody. Or, stand by and do nothing. But if you chose to do nothing, quit complaining and get out of the way of the rest of the people that are out there busting their behinds to make it better for our kids.

. It was a good game and a win over a good team. Our guys play so hard. Fun to watch.I think if we all support our team and coaches we can have a good program in basketball. I would just like to see us the fans get as fired up as the boys are.

Please don't put a 7-2 football team down to compare them to a basketball program that has just won two games... Yes, the basketball team looks like it is in the right direction, but still has a ways to go.. I believe Hawkins will get it to that level... I hope the team does well this season, but don't get too excited... The players will play hard, so win or lose, that makes it fun to watch.
