This was bound to happen sooner or later. There is virtually no traffic enforcement here. The Sheriff's Department is in charge of the Marina itself (on the water), but the California Highway Patrol is in charge of traffic. The area has grown in population while the roadways have stayed pretty much the same. Traffic patterns around here stink because ingress into the Maria ends at Admiralty Way. This means that many drivers, in order to get in or out of the area, are stuck with either Admiralty Way or Lincoln Boulevard. Both of which are quite heavily traveled throughout the day. Add to this the high percentage of people trying to drive and talk on hand-held cell phones and it's a virtual nightmare for anyone on a bike or on foot.

Finally, there is nothing in the way of traffic patrols in the area. One might occasionally see the sheriff's department, but they aren't tasked with traffic. And the agency that is, the California Highway Patrol, are never around. Unless, of course, there's an accident.

Last week I saw the result of two men on a motorcycle who were hit as they waited at a light at Mindanao and the 90 Fwy entrance. Someone in a panel truck cut the corner and hit them head on.

This week I hear that a forty-year old man is hit and killed in a crosswalk, by two drivers who left the scene as he was trying to pick up a wallet. Neither driver stopped and apparently no one knows who hit and killed this man.

You are an idiot, traffic patrols would not saved this mans life! I see the highway patrol constantly working this area! Open your eyes, you can't blame the Government for everything.

Admiralty Way is very dangerous and they are trying to make it even more dangerous by making it a freeway offramp. Read more here http://www.ehlinelaw.com/pages/3106/Highway_R...

I passed this accident, just a few moments after it occurred. Why were so many cars so badly damaged? Were they all speeding? It looked like one car was completely smashed. There were dozens of people around, fire trucks, police, ambulances...and complete silence...we knew someone had died.

FYI ...Mindanao at Lincoln Bl or the 90 FRWY is not the Sheriff or CHP, but rather our wonderful LAPD...as if that makes any difference.
