this is good reason not to bulldoze any of the coastal sagebrush areas at the Ballona Wetlands, which is what Cooper's bosses want to do, as part of their bulldoze it all to restore it plans.

As it is, most people live for the present and have no interest in the past... but those same people certainly do not care about the future either. And you can bet they are the ones with the "who cares" attitude... it's their way of coping with helplessness.

Sagebrush, gnatcatchers... I love it!

I wonder when the elusive "blue collared job" will find its way back to California.
I hear that the california assembly is trying to eradicate the "middle class taxpayer" as well.

I am so glad the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission is doing such an amazing job with our Ballona Wetlands! Thank you!

Rex, I think the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission is doing a great job with the wetlands. Other jobs try to slander their efforts but really they are the most qualified to handle this restoration project. Let's trust the qualified/experts on this one.

They have open house tours of the wetlands for the public...I went on one! They have an incredible staff, you should check it out! I think they meet every month of the third Saturday of the month, 9-12 noon. Go to ballonarestoration.org .

Don't know how to break this to you dude or dudette, but there is no future for California after Nov 2. The people is this state couldn't be any dumber.

This bird species was documented by naturalist Jonathan Coffin in the very same location in 2004. The Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission has done NOTHING to help protect this species, and they have "done a great job with the wetlands" -???? what does this mean? what have they done? This organization has done nothing but spend money that the public approved for buying land at Ballona -- spending instead on staff expenses and planning for a proposal that would bring in bulldozers and ALTER the habitat. The endangered species do not need more estuarine habitat. The Gnatcatcher needs uplands...let's figure out what more this bird needs to survive at Ballona.

Wildflower Fan has it right. The Ballona Wetlands, as in all natural systems, exists only as part of an ecosystem. In the case of wetlands, that means a delicately balanced interdependence between what might be called dry uplands, brackish midlands, and salty lowlands. Animals find food in one arena and rest and nest in another. Making Ballona a pretty bay is out-of-date thinking more resonant with bureaucratic interests than with long term health and beauty, much less in sync with the kinds of green jobs that bring long term benefits to the community.
