This gentleman sounds more reasonable than Mr Lovelace. And he seems to have some real world life experience.

The mission of the Coastal Commission is: "Protect, conserve, restore, and enhance environmental and human-based resources of the California coast and ocean for environmentally sustainable and prudent use by current and future generations."

It is not simply to "strike a balance between development and the protection of natural resources," as Mr. Zanzi states.

"strike a balance between development and the protection of natural resources," code words for screwing over the environment for the almighty dollar.

California is bankrupt. It must find a way to generate income. Or people will die. Raising taxes won't work. It never does, or has. The way to generate funds is to make California more business friendly, and to shed employees and renegotiate contracts with the unions.

Why does this have anything to do with the Coastal Commission? Well, this group of religious thugs has been inhibiting business for decades. Sometimes in a good way, other times at the whim of their religion.

California is the first US State expected to have to declare bankruptcy. It(the State) has been run by the California Democrat Party for at least 40 years.

The damage that may be done by the bankruptcy could crash the planet's economy. But ....

Perhaps if the Coastal Commission had been around several generations ago, we might not have a problem cleaning up the Balloon Tract today. Or perhaps, if business had not been inhibiting the environment for decades, we wouldn't need the Coastal Commission! But for all of you that against the CCC, there is a quick fix. Louisiana is looking for business right now & no Coastal Commission to deal with. The environment sucks, but hey, you can't have it all!

Thanks Arnold, you were not much of a governor but this is a nice tip of the hat on your way out. The ongoing retreat of progressivism is good news for everyone.

Try pulling your head out once in a while. California didn't get into this mess by raising taxes. California's fiscal policy has been controlled by 1/3 of the legislature since 1979 - the avoid raising taxes at all costs third - and guess which party that third belongs to? The State has been playing with smoke and mirrors to disguise the consequences of that approach for too long, and the consequences are disastrous. Which party has held the governorship for 21 of the past 28 years? You pigs need to take responsibility for the mess you created.

You overlooked the part about "human-based" resources. That's where economic considerations come into play. Its mission is not just about knee-jerk preservationism and all other consequences be damned.

Mr. Zanzi's background with DFG lends some hope that he will bring professionalism to the CC's review process, which it has been sorely lacking. Not just with the Marina Center, but with CalTrans projects currently before the CC.
