I certainly understand where that sentiment comes from, but I don't think you realize how little it takes to get on a sex offender list. Soliciting (or being) a prostitute, indecent exposure, or taking a picture of a 17-year-old can all have that result. These are all pretty sleazy things, but I hope we'd all agree that none of them warrant frying.

How are these offenders suppose to make a living or find a place to live? If an adult "moons" an adolescent they can be tried and convicted of a perverted act towards a minor. If a parent spanks a child on the bare butte they can be convicted of aggravated sexual battery. The have done their sentence and are to be on probation the rest of their lives. What about the drunk driver or the drug user/dealer? They could be living next to you also but you would never know it. The neighbor who has a lot of money did he get it from embezzling, or does he just get paid under the table and does not report it on their taxes?
We don’t know, so lets make every one with a conviction be registered so that all these wonderful parents know exactly who they live next to.

excellent idea smc - freedom of information is what it's all about! How simple minded are you that you compare sexual crimes to embezzlement? One effects me - the other does not. Case closed. The Safety of children must come first - period. Before ANY OTHER RIGHT - anyone who can't see the wisdom in this is no better than the monster they're trying to harbor.
Just so that you know how ferociously I believe in this approach to life know this - as a medical provider, I will NOT treat anyone known as a sex-offender. It's against my 'religion'. Bush has protected me from reprisal since as a medical provider I have the right to refuse care to anyone who, as a result if their lifestyle, offends my professional sensibilities..........God Bless America
