Interesting that Cobb County has some of the strictest rules about knives, and they are having the most trouble. Does somebody not see that it's not about the knives? These kids need true leadership, not more invasive rule.

This kid was going to stab someone over a comment about spilled ketchup? I really think that some parents just don't teach their kids anything and this thug cluture that is popular now teaches kids that violence is the way to solve problems. Come on people being dead or in jail is not cool! Want something better for yourselves!

I do not believe that children should be in possession of any kind of weapon, but I have a hard time acccepting that school staff has the right to be in a students car. To me, that is violating some kind of privacy. I know that the car is on school property, but I would have a very hard time accepting that my child could be suspended for something that is in his/her car. I attended Sprayberry High School and parked in their HUGE parking lot. It would take a bit of time to access a weapon in a car if a child was inclined to. If a member of staff has any reason to believe that a student would use a weapon to harm someone, then that students parents should be consulted right away.

That is a great idea as long as the person in charge of the home schooling is actually qualified to do it, which is not always the case. The literacy in these United States is going down hill fast, Georgia is almost on the bottom in the ratings, and I believe keeping the kids home under the guise of home schooling is a mistake.

Why did he have a knife in school anyway? The headline was also misleading.. BOY STABS SISTER. He really cut her and not intentionally.

This school is in the Marietta City School District, not Cobb County.

This story just makes me sad. The fact that kids today (I'm a former middle school teacher) feel like violence is the only answer doesn't say much about where society is headed. I'm not sure what the solution is, but we do need to work together to solve this growing problem.

Parent should be help responsible if their children are cought carrying a weapon. What kind of parenting (lack of) is this???Hey...if you as a parent brought a child in this world, you must make sure that this child does not cause problems to others.

Wasn't everyone outraged last week when the kid was charged with having a knife on school property? It appears that people are less ourtraged that a student was hurt with a knife on school property. Children reflect parental values or the lack thereof. Zero Tolerance isn't a Cobb Co, rule. Cobb County is following the LAW as written. As I stated in commenting about the other news report the schools are not part of the judical system. The last thing I knew about government the school systmes weren't making laws. They do not have the authority to interpret the law--just follow it.

I completely agree that one of the main problems is lack of parenting, and lack of consequences. My co-workers and I had that same conversation yesterday at lunch. When I was a teacher, I never met half my students' parents...because they just weren't involved.

It is sad to see what this world is turning into. Back in the day we only used fists. Kids are the meanest things on this planet. They act and do things before they think of the consquences. Them kids need some professional help and in a hurry.

I attend this high school, and was in the cafeteria at the table next to the incident. I would just like to clarify to a few of you that Marietta High School does not fall in the Georgia demographic of low grades and literacy, as we were ranked in the top 5% of the nation's schools this past year.

Also, what does that have to do with this occurence? Marietta High School is not some school in the middle of the ghetto, it's in a nice part of town where there is a very active, possitive community...showing you that these things can occur anywhere.
