Baseball activities at a young age is fine (great) but lets get a grip on it. These kids go to school daily and play ( or try to play)league play during the week and play daddy ball on most of the weekends and it is burning these kids out due to a couple of individuals putting on a weekend tournament to pad their pockets at the extent of our kids. My understanding is that the two individuals putting on this weekends play at the MERE will pocket some $10,000 after all expenses have been payed. A pretty good pay check for two days I would say! I have noticed kids playing league play and they are burning out kwick and can not stay focused. Most coaches of this so called TravelBall (Daddy ball)coach just to make sure their own kids are played with little or no concern for the other kids on the team. I have seen these so called coaches shuffle a complete lineup to get their kids to remain in the game. Take notice so called travel ball participants!

I agree. Most of these "COACHES" are trying to live out there athletic shortcomings through their kids. Its kinda sad really.

I think it is great that there is local tournaments for the travel ball players. Concerned, you are trying to make it sound like because there is a tournament at the MERE, this is burning the kids out. The parents that want to relive their youth, and their kids play travel ball, they will take their kid anywhere to play. These kids are not just playing because there is a tournament at the MERE. The Daddys that are trying to live their dream are going to take their kid some where to play. Why not keep it local.

If the games are for the kid's then it is great! But, get real it is not for all the kids. So "concerned about what" the concern is that these kids are being drug around most every weekend while the "Daddy's" are trying to promote their own self or their own kids as you said "living out their dream" at the expense of other parents not knowing how political this type of games are. Kids are being allowed on the team just to have enough kids to play in the tournament. Get a grip and let the kids just be kids. Concerned you have my vote and I can only hope parents wake up and don't "Buy In no matter where the Tournament is scheduled to be played at!"

We love baseball at our house. We are either in the yard playing, at the MERE playing or in a tourney somewhere playing. My husband does love baseball as much as my son, but we have never, ever forced him to do such. Travel ball is totally optional to the parents so what do you all care if the guys are padding their pockets in the tourney weekend at the MERE? Business is business. Now, as far as the Daddy-ball aspect of it all, I see much more of this going on during rec ball. My son is not the star player on the team, however, he is one of the better ones because he does play travel ball as well as rec ball and he does practice very often. My husband coaches both rec ball as well as travel ball but if my son isnt playing well, he is pulled and sits the bench or plays in another position. If you dont like the coaches that are volunteering their time to assist your child in the development of skills in playing baseball, perhaps next season you should try to volunteer 5 days a week from March to June and see if you could do a better job than your childs coach. The bottom line is that Travel ball is totally optional and you must sign your child up to play. Travel ball is not for everyone as it is intended for the more advanced players and each position played in travel ball is important including the outfield. The coaches as well as most parents would agree that in order to win the best players should be utilized in the proper position whether it offends the parent or child. Personally, I feel like if you all have the time to sick back and degrade the volunteer coaches of baseball that you obviously need something more to do. For example, what are you doing to help the future leaders of our community? Are you volunteering to assist with your child? If so, can you honestly say that you are not partial to you children? Please just let this crap go and let the children enjoy playing ball.

Ball Moma how do you know if Concerned is a Coach or not? Bottom Line is you don't. Did the comment hit home? It must have! The point is the cost is not worth what the kids are put through. But then your kid don't get put through anything, Ball Moma and Daddy-Ball! I can say I like to see my kid and all kids get to play. If you and your Coach Dad is so fair and your kid is treated like everyone else's kid then by all means post what team your Husband Coaches because a lot of people want to come and watch a really great and fair coach that is coaching travel ball. Have not seen one yet. As far as "Future Leaders" a good example is sure being set on the ball field, run over, move, get out of the way, just so I get OR my kid gets to play where ever Daddy-Ball, Ball Moma or the kid wants to play! Next, Partial is one thing but at the expense of misstreating other kids is totally not right. If a Coach volunteer's for selfish reasons and only to promote his or her own kid "GO HOME" someone will take up the slack. No one is unreplacable. Lots of people are willing so clean it up or let someone do it that has not got an auterior motive.

We play in Marianna at most tourneys. However, travel ball is totally optional and go right ahead and start you a team with your son and whomever you wish to place on your team. It is relatively inexpensive and then you wont have anybody else to bitch about. Travelball is not for everyone, it is for the boys that are more advanced and want to play ball. If you dont like it, dont play it. Get it? It sounds like maybe you need to be on the field or in the batting cage with your son instead of criticizing the coaches. Get off your butt and train him yourself!!!!! Know it all DA!!!!!!!!!!

That is just the kind of example that is being set by people like you on the ball field for all the little kids to see. Now Now..You don't have to be angry and use bad Language we are all adults. Your attitude just proves my point. By the way you know and so does everyone else the kids don't have to be advanced in ball to be on the travel team the parents just have to fork out the money!!!
Point Made.

Get a grip, it sounds like you have had a bad experience with travelball. If so, what happened? Did your child have to sit on the bench? If a child isnt advanced enough to play with the big boys then he is going to sit on the bench. Most coaches attempt to win! Most parents want to win. Rec ball is just for fun, Travelball is to experience real competive baseball and skill training. Look, if your child plays travelball and your that unhappy, I am sure there are plenty of teams looking to pick up another player. As far as making money off of being a travelball coach, I go in the hole every time we have a tourney, by choice. I feel like the parents should only have to pay for their child to play in the tourney. I supply the drinks, etc myself. Oh, and on my travelball team, we only have 10 players and switch out every inning so that everyone gets to play. Remember, travelball is totally optional. You can always begin a new team with your favorites. Perhaps you can talk with one of us coaches about this.

This reminds me of my Little League days.

It was long ago in a county far away. The ages were 9 thru 12. Ofcourse a 12 year old is going to be more athletic than a 9 year old.

It was commonly known the coaches had a standing bet of a case of beer for the winning coach.

The 9's never played, beer motivated winning. Very unfair, ole coach forgot about kids and baseball and concentrated on his beer gut.

Anyway I'm sure the coaches are long gone now, I can only hope he's in hell wishing he had a cold beer.

what about recreational league ball? I have seen coaches put their child in when he was out of school for 2 or 3 days and lost the game due to him walking kids. Then the coach had the audasity to fuss and yell at the team for his shortcomings. I tell you what, that MERE needs to better screen who they allow coach out there. This coach in particular brown noses and gets his choice on practice and game times. He is so stupid.

Coach it has nothing to do with advanced players! It has to do with a kids parents money (being on the team) then it has to do with what and how a travel coach wants to play the kids. Out of the ten kids on the team you can not tell me that all are switched out and each kid sets the bench. Not! They might be switched from one position to the other and then that justifies for the Coach the ones you put on the bench. Right? But So Wrong! I witnessed some of the better players set the bench. So it has nothing to do with the skill of the kid! You keep talking about Advanced Skill in the Child. Well you are right Skill has a lot to do with playing ball of all kinds. Point made once again. If the Kid of the Coach don't have the Advanced Skill put him on the bench and let the other Advanced Skilled Kid that was put on the bench PLAY!
Then Travel Ball Team Coach will NOT BE CALLED DADDY BALL!
