I remember one of my favorite passtimes at night was catching lightning bugs. My yard was infested with them. I can't remember seeing one in decades. What happened to them I wonder! Was it my imagination?

I remeber growing up in Grand Ridge and walking to Mr. Tman's store with a carton of coke bottles and one dollar with my sisters. We could get 6 cokes and 4 packs of peanuts for a $1. Now that is the truth. We walked alone without worrying about who might mess with us. Everyone was safe back them. Life was so simple!!!

Nope, we did the same thing as kids:) They moved to TN like a lot of Florida folks- LOL. See 'em here every sundown; just as beautiful as ever!

I remember going with my mother to buy our Easter dresses at Inez's Dress Shop.
Went to Inez's too. Also shopped at Turner's Dept Store for dresses to wear to church. Mrs. Turner and her son were always there (he reminds me of the bald headed guy on Seinfield - Jason Alexander:) Mrs. Turner and her son were always dressed so nice and very stylish. Also remember her talking about another son that was a fashion designer in Hollywood - would see his name, Rhett Turner, on the credits (yes, I read the credits!) of many famous Hollywood movies back in the day.

I remember when I first moved here my friend told me to go to Hightowers and sit at the counter and order something. Didn't matter what. She said lunch counters like that were disappearing and Hightowers was closing soon, I might never get another chance to sit at an "old fashioned counter and have a coke." I did what she told me and it made a nice memory, because they really are pretty much a thing of the past. The gas-station/convience store fountain coke is just not the same thing.

I rmember riding the school bus to Blue Springs each morning during the summer and swimming until lunch and then riding it home again. Mom gave us 25cent each to spend at the store at the springs. We had so much fun and all four of us learned to swim.

I remember the Christmas parades and then everyone went to the pancake supper at Riverside Elementary where the dads cooked and served. My dad happened to be principal so we were always there. One year, Dad bought our first TV after the parade. I was 15 at the time.

Did anyone else learn to drive at the Riverside Cemetery?
Before we got our TV, we would go for a ride in the country on the dirt roads, most likely, for entertainment.

Sheriff Barkley Gause

Hinson's Stables roughly in Madison's Restaurant.

The Ford tractor dealership was on Green street across from the suntrust drive-thru.

Great topic, it brings back lots of memories!

I have So enjoyed reading this thread, sat up most of the night last night reading! I'm 38 and remember quite a few things mentioned on here, My earliest memories are probably of riding the train at the boys school around Christmas and all the lights they used to put up. I can remember watching Little Orphan Annie at the Drive in Movies where JCSO is now, hate that move by the way haha... I remember party lines as a child listing in on the neighbors conversations, What a great topic/thread... love it keep it going.

I remember when I was 10-11 years old and able to walk from my house to the movie theater and watch "Honey I shrunk the kids" by myself and walk home and not have to worry about anything or anyone.
