Am I hearing this correct? Marianna Baseball Coach is fired because he ran the boys during try outs. Or held Try Outs too early. Give me a break would you. If your good enough you will prepare and make the team regardless. Some kids simply aren't good enough. Face it mom's and dad's. This is High School Baseball.
I am going to reserve further comment until these parents start piping in on this subject. Then I will tell you what reality presents to these kids as they leave "Daddy Ball". I will tell you the lessons learned of playing there back in the early 80's under a certain coach who know's his shit. Okay parents, pipe in!

It is true! Parents complained about the running and some kids didn't make the cut so they fire him. Guess what? They had new tryouts and guess who made the team?!? Yep.... Those that didn't make it first cut! Grow up! This is high school you can't continue to fight your kids battles, life isn't fair and not everyone is good at everything!!! The old saying us true here.... Pop them off the tit and let them grow up! With growing up comes heartaches and failures, it's called life!! Andy Shelton got a raw deal on this and everyone should stand up in support of him! If a couple if parents can do this to him do any if you teachers, coaches or sponsors think your job is safe???

Shelton is not fired. He's at Golson. It doesn't matter what subject/sport you teach/coach, it matters what child/parent you tick off and their influence/money.

Shelton was relieved from baseball not teaching but it still stinks he was let go! You are correct about pissing off the parents.... Ridiculous!!! If this were a bigger county you wouldn't have this. Do people not realize they are little fish in a big sea! Move to Leon county and see where your whining gets you!!

This did not, would not or could not have occurred during the era of "Are you good Enough"! I cannot think of a more ridiculous incident than this one. Cut the flipping Umbilical Cord already. From what I' m hearing this kid can't play at this level. Only his parents believe it.

As a coach I was once approached by a father of a kid whom didn't see the field. He questioned me on why his kid isn't getting playing time. I responded with " Because he can't play". From that point forward this father respected me and to this day respects me as I respect him for accepting the cold truth. You see, the cold truth slaps us in the face and abets us in moving past hopes dashed by reality.

The cold truth should not alarm you then, so here it is. You need some grammar lessons before you post again.

Andy Selton is a very good baseball coach and yes he made mistakes who hasn't. He believed calling a spade a spade if you weren't good enough you didn't make the team. So when little "Johnny's" didn't make the team the parents run to the school and schoolboard and complain two years in a row. Now guess what we have a new coach that knows absolutely nothing about baseball much less how to coach. So back to the Mere and play some daddy ball. For the boys that really want to play this will be a waisted year. So thanks to all you parents that cost Shelton his job so all your little boys can play some daddy ball because they aren't good enough to play real baseball. Come go parents cut the strings and let the boys grow up. We don't have any that might play pro ball but we do have some that might get a baseball scholarship and don't need a waisted year.

This has nothing to do with Grammar buddy, In case you didn't notice. Your expressing your anger of the cold truth by resorting to another subject. It's obvious your not favoring the truth of this travesty. Let your kid earn his/her way.

Wow! That would really boost the boy's spirits!! Lets just wish a losing season on them instead of addressing the real problem!! The real problem is that if someone pushes your kid to be a better student, athlete or even a person and might hurt their feelings along the way then heaven forbid let's get rid of the coach or teacher!!! This is what is wrong with society! Everyone wants a free and easy ride instead of working hard to get what they deserve!!! Welcome to small town politics!! It stinks!!

I have to agree with really. Come on people If your child does not have what it takes then walk away and tell yor child to practice some more. There is nothing wrong with needing a little more practice.

if the team has a winning season with the new coach it says one thing if they don't it will say another then we might know the whole story can the kids that were on the team play? or can the kids that somehow end up on the team if what people are saying here is true, win or lose, the proof will be in the pudding as they say

you are correct whatsinaname it is ashame that this small town has so many bitter parents that they have to ruin someone elses lives. if your kid cant play ball then what do you think when they show up now to play when they were cut to begin with. why dont you let your children learn how to get onto a team on their own. you name and money wont get them everything all the time

Enough is enough! Leave the team alone and let them move on beyond this. Find something else better to do with your time besides bash the players and wish the team bad luck. The players on the team, or at least the ORIGINAL players, are not to blame for this incident. What the community needs to do is come out and support the team regardless of your opinion about the coaching change. That is history! Although I agree that this is not and should not be daddy ball and they we have moved on beyond the mere, I do believe that the best of players should be on the field. On the other hand, if you are not good enough to play, you shouldn't have made the team to start with (or in the 2nd round in this case). And just to let you know, there ARE players on this team that will get baseball scholarships, despite this event. It's not about the coaches because the public doesn't select them anyway. This program is for the boys!
