Crime in Marianna is so bad that the drug dealers can carry guns and drive with them and sell drugs and the police and other officals do nothing. The homes are empty and vacant. More homes are being put up for sale and long time residents areleaving this once a very quiet but growing town, now the town is dead, drug dealers, crack heads, and alcoholics. The Mayor and police, public officals all let them do what they want. They do get a kick back from the drug sales.

I Agree with you Artie, that is all that is there anymore. I say put a fence around it and strike a match. Not all of the people in Marianna but most of them are loosers now!! The most of them are strung out so bad they don't even know who they are any more. I can name alot of them.

Yes it's true!! I am from Marianna but I am off in college now. Marianna has a town full of drug dealers and it seems like the police do nothing about it. I mean, the town is so small that everybody knows everybody! So there is no excuse to why the police are doing nothing about it. It's not fair. I can get pulled over down there for not wearing a seat belt or exceeding the speed limit but if someone has drugs on them, they let them go. Police are suppose to serve. It's seems to me that they are helping destroy the people.

True, Cops are trying to destroy everyone there, The police department there is the worst I have ever seen and they are crooked I think most of them are doing drugs. The Police Department in Marianna is what you call back woods law inforcement, if that is what you call it. I know for a fact that two of the police officers there know of people that are pushing drugs and they just over look it. One reason these two cops are over looking the girl pushers is because they are getting paid with sexual favors and that is a fact.

She dated a drug dealer and he almost killed her. When she called the police they said they couldnt do anything about it unless she had him arrested and then he'd just bail himself out so she didnt want to make it worse. They said she couldnt get a restraining order at the time. They wouldnt patrol the area and then when she told them he'd hit her and had her on the ground they still did nothing. When he went out to go get his gun, they did nothing. In fact they let him walk right away. He could of gotten away with murder and no one would even know what happened because they want his money. The thing is when all that happened she didnt even ask for him to get arrested she just wanted him to leave her alone.

I agree with the majority that Marianna is soon to be taken over by drugs, but so are a lot of other small rural towns. We need the state police or the DTF to investigate all areas and help us out.

THANK YOU BECAUSE THAT IS THE BEST THING I HAVE HEARD YET BUT ITS SO HARD TO GET ANYONE TO TALK ABOUT THE REAL PROBLEMS THAT GOES ON IN THESE SMALL TOWNS. WHAT COULD BE SAID OR DONE TO LET THE PEOPLE KNOW THAT IT IS HELP OUT THERE YOU JUST HAVE TO OPEN UP AND LET SOMEONE KNOW.

What we all fail to do is pray. So as it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end. Revelation is the end of all the chapters in the BIBLE. Once God closes this chapter in OUR LIVES, we as individuals will be held accountable for our OWN actions. We will be judged according to our deeds. We are living in the last days. Just make sure that if you are reaching out to Marrianna, do it as Christ did it. We are supposed to pray for those high officials. We can't change no one. They will have to change themselves. Until they acknowledge that God has dominion over all things and that he can wipe them out in the midst of their sins, they are as closer to hell and eternal damnation, then they can even imagine. Yes. Do what's within your power to help save Marianna, but note: In Sodem and Ghomorra, there were a few that God felt that shouldn't be destroyed in that sinful city. When they left, God then and only then, destroyed it. Just maybe, God is allowing the good people TIME to leave and wait patiently to destroy the city of Marianna or he may spare the city of Marianna, as he did the city of Ninevah. Maybe be one of you out there is a Jonah, running from what God has assigned you to do. Give a message to Marianna to repent, for the end is near. Don't live the rest of your life wondering what you should've, could've, would've done. Do what you feel is necessary. Do your DEED.

I grew up in Marianna, and my parents still live there. I was there last week and I grow more and more depressed each time I go home as I see the town continue to decline.
It's not just Marianna, but almost all of the Delta towns are declining. There are no jobs, few opportunities, so the good people are leaving and what you have left are the people who are too old to move and the dirtbags who are dragging the town down. Helena is the same way, as is Forrest City. I don't really know what it will take to bring these towns back, or even if it is possible, but I have been trying to move back there now for a couple of years (I'm in Fayetteville now) and recently I have been second guessing that desire. I don't know that I can in good conscience drag my wife and 2 kids back there when the town is as it is, especially as the town apparently continues to decline.
To be honest and blunt, there is a huge racial divide in Marianna. This divide is keeping the blacks and whites from working together to revitalize the town. I'm white, and I see other white people who shrug and say "it's the blacks' fault". That's their excuse. It doesn't require them to get off their rears and try to do something. Blame it on "them" so the responsibility is not yours. I know that regardless of race, there are people who love the town and hate to see it's decline, and I also know that regardless of race, there are people who are bringing the town down. I see garbage being thrown out of car windows drivin by whites and blacks. I see houses caving in from neglect that are owned/lived in by both whites and blacks. Yet what I haven't seen is whites and blacks working together to do something about it. Until this racial obstacle is overcome I don't see anything changing, and even then, unless something comes into the town to revitalize it economically, it won't get any better.

The Mayor is a conman, as was his predecessor. The worst mistake Marianna made was to start paying the Mayor a salary (Martin Chaffin started that). Before Chaffin the mayor was a volunteer position and we had someone there who did the job because they cared, not because it was an easy paycheck and an easy way to skim off of the city revenue. I have heard the police force has been cleaned up with Kevin Evans "Tater", but I don't know if that's true or not (anyone care to fill me in)?

As long as the people of Marianna continue to do nothing, the town will continue to decline. When people see garbage all over town, roads that are falling apart, 20 cars parked in people's front yards, and homes that are allowed to fall apart, where do they get motivation to keep their own affairs in order? It seems that the people there who cared have died or moved off, and while there are still a few there who really care, they are too few and the task at hand seems insurmountable to them so they don't even try.

I don't have any answers, just ranting a bit. I love that town, but I love it as it was 15-20 years ago, and it pains me to see it literally drying up.

I think the real problem in the area is the economy. That is what has kept me from moving back there. There aren't any jobs there. That is perhaps an insurmountable obstacle when it comes to revitalizing the town, but as long as the people are unwilling to try to clean the town up and do their part, I don't think it will get any better.

Marianna is bad and it is carrying over to the small community of Haynes. I Detest how many drugs dealers are in the community and how it is affecting even the young teens. Drugs are ruining the Lee County Community and sometihing need to be done. Yes, everybody knows who sells the drugs, why can't they just arrest them.

Grew up in Lee County, graduated from LSH, left, moved back 10 years later and the druggies had took over...Left again as I refuse to raise a family in the drug cesspool there...have family still there so I keep up with what goes on...
I'm glad others feel this way too....but sadly there is little hope. Law enforcement is a joke and has been for years. The sheriffs dept has been crooked so long they know no better. May had drug dealing "family members" and friends so he turned the other way, Oxner was no better, and the fat clown there now dont care....have reported drug dealers and he just chuckles....guess its too hard to get up from the eating table. Drove thru LaGrange last year noticed a house burnt down, asked what happened, old so & so was cooking meth and it exploded...what was done ....nothing....went to Food Giant, everything that wasnt locked up was stolen while shopping....
Not everybody from Marianna is this way BUT the majority is.......
Just my opinion

Maybe it is the Lee County Sheriff department. In 2004 ago there were two good men that ran trying to beat that fat dude Oxner. Well he won and Lee county will pay as long as he is there. There will never be change as long as they keep taking payoff....for donuts.

I lived around Marianna all my life and it's funny how the drugs and crooked officials have run that town in the ground.Mayor Taylor got in to office by only god know's how, ended up buying the house of former Sheriff Bobby May that I could not afford and he did it on a Rev. salary!
Now May is the St. Francis Sheriff but still has pull and his puppets in Lee County and the city of Marianna.
If you are not into drugs or corruption, I suggest you leave and never look back because all the big players there are the wealthy, why else would they remain with no viable business left in that god forsaken place?
It use to be a place you were proud to call home back in the Montgomery days when you had people that really cared about the place but all is certainly forgotten and I can only pray that all the folks involved in the unlawful shit going on there get served one day!
