What new business does Marengo need most?

We'll NEVER get any of these projects because of the men on the city council board. The mayor may work very hard at securing developers who will attempt to work with Marengo BUT the developer will always be voted down and run out of Marengo before any building is built. Check out who these men are - they want to make Marengo a ghost town. No businesses mean no citizens. It would be wise of us to just move out now! They say it's a buyers market! haha If you can secure a loan and get someone else to buy your godforsaken home in this town they call Marengo.

Any business is good business is true. If you can only keep the McHenry County Conservation District from buying up all our land we'd actually get some new business in Marengo...
Maybe we should BULLDOZE Brandt's Pharmacy and the Library and get some decent businesses in here!

While we are at it we should bulldoze all the banks to. There aren't doing us any good lately! Ha Ha

HAHAHAHA - Excellent Idea, Just as Unhappy!
Edward Jones is the only business in Marengo that can keep our money safe - it would seem. For that matter; it's the only business in Marengo that gives a damn about his clients as well! Which is more than I can say for the Park District. Or Brandt's Pharmacy. Or Flatlander's.

Well, well, well! I have NEVER had a bad experience at Brandt's Pharmacy. They know me by my first name when I walk in there. They always have my pills ready and waiting for me. I have nothing but TOP QUALITY service EVERY TIME I go to Brandt's Pharmacy. Let's not knock down Brandt's Pharmacy. They are a staple to this town.

a bowling alley is going in over by the high school, just what we need,, how stupid... get a walgreens and a decent grocery here!

Is there something wrong with being a locally owned store instead of being run by Wall Street?Been shopping Wisteds since they were located in they were located in the library building. they have better quality meats that are not pumped and cheaper than the big Wall Street stores that you must be so fond of.
#9 Dec 1, 2008
Well a bowling alley would be fun to have around town. It's not like we have anything else to do but go to the bars. As for a "Wall Street" store - I think we can do WAAAAAAAAY better than Brandt's. We need a Walgreens or some other big name store with a pharmacy that treats us better than the service offered at Brandt's.
#10 Dec 12, 2008
wisteds meat is so bad that the butchers that work there do not take home the meat for customers, they make their own with less *JUNK* in it.
Id love to see wisteds bulldozed! but a jewel is way too high priced ...something in between would be better.
#11 Dec 12, 2008
we DO NOT NEED a bowling alley, how stupid,, the crystal lake, and harvard ones are not used! Why does anyone think they will be used after the newness wears off?
all a bowling alley is , is a BAR with something to do while you DRINK, we do not need more BARS or places to drink!
#12 Dec 17, 2008
we do not need a blowling ally, all they are is a glorified bar where kids can hang out! we do not need that for sure!

What complete CRAP!!!
First off Brandts has never filled a complete order!
Always come back and we'll complete your order...but do they call???
So, hopefully you will forget and they just screwed ya!
How bout Wisteds???
They have barely any stock at all,
and rape you whenever they can.
$4.00 for cookies
$6.00 for cereal
etc. etc. etc!!!
This old A$$ family needs some competition!
Along with the Brandts, AND Those crooks...
Now this town relies solely on bars, and banks. Thats it!
So...1 MORE BAR...WTF???
Yes, we do need someplace for activities in this town.
Yes, Bowling is fun.
and the kids could have fun there too.
But, Now they get to see the parents get drunk and stupid in the same building!!!
Gotta love it!
Marengo needs a bowling alley with a bar,
just like a pig needs Friggen lipstick!

I really can't say anything good or bad about Brandts mainly because I can't remember the last time I got a prescription. I guess everybody thinks we need a Walgreens but I needed coffee one night and at $12 for a can of coffee I won't be going there either. My girlfriend gets prescriptions from a large chain and they never seem to fill her prescriptions completely. I am what you could call a frugal shopper and as far as I can see Wisteds prices are about the same as everybody elses when you get down to it. Maybe some people just need to learn to shop.My girlfriend also used to shop at the larger chain stores until she went shopping with me and now she goes to Wisteds in Woodstock because of there prices. As far as inventory goes even Walmart runs out of a product except the just cover up the empty spot with extra merchandise.

Let me quote you...
"Maybe some people just need to learn to shop"
..."now she goes to Wisted's"...
"Walmart runs out of a product"...
Is your last name Wisted?
We are talking about Marengo Wisted's.
There are NO good prices.
They can charge what they want because Yes, even those of us, who dont want to EVER shop there, sometimes have to end up there for that "one" must have item.
Otherwise we have to drive to Belvidere, or Woodstock.
So They got us!
Just like The Brandt's,
and a couple of other Marengo families who control this town.
They fight the growth, so they can buy more land, and slum rental properties!
What a pre-historic Friggen town with pre-historic people in control!
#16 Jan 15, 2009
Havent noticed any different prices between Woodstock and Marengo stores. No my last mame isn't Wisted but I am a long time resident.May I ask what you do for the town? Most people seem to want to sit and complain but are too lazy to do anything about it.Local business owners have there lives invested in the area so they care more about what is going on localy. If you want to talk about backward you need to take a closer look at Belvidere. The funny thing is all of the people move out from the burbs and think they need to change everything. Start looking at all of Walmarts priving as it has gone up considerably.

What do I do for this town???
Hmmm, Let me count the ways...
1) I pay $8000 a year in taxes.
2) My family and I drink the water from the wells in this town that the E.P.A. has shut down a few times because of high lead content.
3) We have had 2 incidents/emergencies and have had to rely on the "volunteer" EMT squad, who have taken up to 15 minutes to get to our house.
4) We have all had to deal with the most inferior Police Dept. in the Metropolitan Chicago area. Each and every day more and more Marengo officers have made the Chicago Newscasts for being VERY BAD people. Newspapers have made jokes about sending criminals to the Marengo Police Dept. as a threat, over GITMO!
5) I have kids who go to school in Marengo, where they have done nothing but cut funding on everything possible.
6) I give my $ to the Park District who has barely anything to offer to kids anymore.
7) I have went to City Council meetings, and voiced my opinion on growth in this town, always to no avail,,,with the same people shooting down any ideas of growth in this town.
8) I have went to Planning/Zoning meetings, same as above.
9) I have volunteered many times with our school district on numerous occasions
10) I have to drive on streets that never ever get plowed in this town.
11) I have a property that has lost 20% value for the last 2 years (as all of America has had to deal with) BUT, Did I mention I am up to $8000 a year in taxes! For some reason they keep assessing our houses, and figure that our property values keep going up!
12) I am a registered voter, and have voted each and every time.
This town cannot handle 1 more family.
This town cannot handle 1 more house.
This town needs new business to take away some of the tax burden on all of us homeowners.
As long as there are always 4 or 5 controlling families in this town,
Way overdue new business tax dollars, will never be able to enter this town.
So, sit and complain...
I think I earned that right as of just reading #1 on my list.

Taxes are bad everywhere you go but with a national debt close to $30000 per person I dont really see an end in sight.I often refer to our economy as following the same footprints as the Roman Empire who had everybody else do there dirty work and spent excessive amount on there military that they ended up neglecting there own economy and falling into economic collapse.
In order for more to come into town you need to go back to the basics that for every 3 good jobs there is 1 job created in the service industry but unfortunatly we have allfallen into the trap of the foreign trinkets that will eventually hurt us everywhere. You may think this is just happening in Marengo but it is happening everywhere.
On the schools I believe the last figure I heard is that it costs around $7000 per year per student in the state of Illinois and the taxes on a home dont even come close to covering it.Every school that I know of is in financial stress.
I would like to here what streets arent being plowed as it seems to me they are doing a pretty good job. When I grew up there wasnt a swimming pool or really anything at the park like there is now allthough we did have Greibels beach. Some how we entertained ourselves and really didnt need somebody else to figure out what to do.
As far as new businesses there have been a lot that have come and gone either because of poor management or lack of customer support which is partly due to the love affair of the car with me included. I remember when we had 3 grocery stores and yes one was a division of Jewel. We also had a Pizza Hut and 3 lumber yards not to mention 2 fertilizer businesses.

Not sure about the lead content but I do know the well on Prospect is high in VOCs and is just used for backup.Your property taxes home value is based on a three year old evaluation.
I agree there are way too many homes for our infrastructure but that is kind of what kept our economy going for the last 10 years but that was easy to see that it would come to an end considering home prices were climbing and income was stagnant it was just a matter of time and then they sold house with no moned down on people that they knew couldnt afford it.
I havent had any problems with the rescue squad and havent had to call them in quite a few years. The last time I called them the EMTs were there in about 5 minutes and they actually beat the rescue squad.
The last time I did something with the park district other than organizing something was about 10 years ago. We forgot to sign our kids up for soccer and they wanted to charge us a late fee because we were a day late. They couldnt understand why we werent going to coach that year and really havent had a use for them since.
Just a thought You must see a need for a business in town and maybe you should look into starting one up.I peronally had my own business and I kind of enjoy not having to worry constantly anymore.Having your own business really makes you respect those that do and you really get to see how things work first hand

I suggest you move. There's no way I'd still be living somewhere I loathed as much as you do!
(I mean no offense!)
