This is not a rumor, gossip, or a tall tale. The sherrif’s office is not reporting these incidents to the NW Herald as they do not want to “alarm” the county’s citizens. Over the last few weeks there have been multiple home invasions, robberies, and attempted robberies of the homes in McHenry and Boone County.

Men, and women, posing as ComEd repair technicians and the like are parking their vehicles in front of homes, down streets, placing white cones in the area and casing/robbing homes. The reports are of a white van and a white “car”. The home invasions have been non-violent, and handguns are the weapons they are using to intimidate the homeowner, but that just means no one was seriously injured.

Posing as ComEd or a construction worker/Tech, they knock, ask if they can use the phone, check “your electrical”, have some water, etc. etc., and then gain entrance into the house. They’ve been holding the homeowner at gunpoint while the other crew members clean out the house.

Homes along Collins Road, River Road, Garden Valley Road, Kishwaukee Valley Road, Bull Valley, and in Garden Prairie have been hit so far, as they seem to be targeting homes out in the country.
