I have not read any negative comments from past directors of Marengo Park District. All the negativity seems to be centered around the current park director, Denise Anderson.

It doesn't seem as though people hate her as much as it seems that people feel she's incompetent. In other words, this woman is not qualified for her job. However, can you expect a qualified park director to stick around at $60,000 a year? Most likely they will want more salary. On the other hand, it sounds like this Denise Anderson is paid way too much for the work she is NOT doing over there at the park.

Can anyone say what the woman DOES DO? What work has this Denise Anderson done for the park in the past years that she has been director? We have focused so much on her short-comings that we know nothing of the positive things she has done for the park.

Could it be that in the four years since our last park director, NOTHING GOOD has come out of the park?

You all need to stop spreading lies and rumors and get a life of your own.
You are sad sad people that give small towns a bad name of gossip mongers.. you should be ashamed of yourselves.
She is a hard working woman, and does a nice job.

Just a couple of questions. Is she or the position worth what she is being paid and were the programs that were cut being used? Seems to me if the government was run more like a business instead of an experiment things would be a lot different and maybe better.

Attend the board meeting next month, submit the questions and ask them to report their findings during the March board meeting. You won't find valid information here, only opinions.

Opinions yes, but you probably won't get valid answers from the board members either. It has been my experience that they sugar coat their findings and play nod men and smile politely. It is only after you have left and they feel as though they have appeased you that your "points of interests" or "questions" are brushed aside. Here is a list of the current board members, that I personally will NOT be voting for in April.

President Jerry Doane
Vice President Steve Secor
Secretary Steve Mortensen
Treasurer Bill Weiss
Commissioner Mike Driver
Attorney John Cowlin
Mascot Fred T. Squirrel
(with maybe the exception of FRED T. SQUIRREL)

I have also attended board meetings, and it seems that they have an answer or justification for every concern (Like about the pool). Nothing is done to better the park district from what I can see.

There is nothing dynamic or interesting comming from Denise Anderson and her staff at the Park District. I think this is due to her inexperence as a Director of Parks.

Can anyone who supports her tell us where she was a Director of a Park District where she went to school or where she got her credentials from?

Was she ever even a coach of a sports team?? Ever?

I don't think she was. And there in lies the problem.

Here is a list from the Northwest Hearld of the people that are running for the park board:

Marengo

Trustee (four four-year terms): Steve Mortensen (i), Stephen D. Secor (i), James Bartell, Julie Scianna, Donna Roney, Jennifer Kacprowicz
New People

If we don't vote for either of the Steves, we'll have a majority of new people on the board. I really think that we need a majority of new people in order to have any change at the park. The current board has been in there for years now, and all the park has done is gone downhill.

It is known that Denise Anderson has never been a Director of Parks before being appointed director of the Marengo Park District. No lifeguard experience, no sports experience, no fitness experience, no training for early childhood teaching...You'll have to ask Denise for yourself if she's had any business schooling in her background...Personally, I doubt she has any bookkeeping or management or marketing experience. Even though I state she has no training for early childhood teaching in her past - she HAs taught or headed up the pre-school program at the Park District in her past. So I guess you could call that experience...if you want.

You shouldn't discount people's opinions. People who speak out are passionate about something and usually have very valid reasons for speaking up. I can tell you you won't get valid answers or information from a board meeting. The board members and Denise Anderson are not there to tell you the truth - they will sugar coat their answers and dance around your question making you THINK you are leaving with answers. After a few days or even a few months you will realize that your questions have not been answered and your concerns or ideas were tossed out with the trash!

Opinions can be based on interpretation of facts or driven by emotions. It’s a belief that may or may not be backed up with evidence. I have personally spoke to a board member regarding an issue I had regarding an individual that has been problematic according to others’“opinions”. This was only ONE bad experience that I have had with the park district. That would have been enough to create a negative opinion had I not left a message for a board member. That board member did return my call. This person did NOT sugar coat anything or give me b.s. during our conversation and I was satisfed with the results in the end. This was my personal experience and… my opinion.
Was your statement “board members and Denise Anderson are not there to tell you the truth - they will sugar coat their answers and dance around your question making you THINK you are leaving with answers. After a few days or even a few months you will realize that your questions have not been answered and your concerns or ideas were tossed out with the trash!” stemming from a personal experience you had with the park district?
Maybe “gossipy whiners” feels passionate about his/her opinion and has a valid reason his/her post…

I wish "gossipy whiners" would elaborate more about a positive experience with the park instead of only bashing people who actually have opinions.

I, too, have gone to a board member with a park related problem. The board member was unable to resolve my situation, and in my opinion, was not very interested in what I had to say.
