Yea, Knives are so much more intimate. I guess you figure that if the psycho did'nt have a gun he would not have killed her. Guns are tools and in themselves inanimate objects that know no intent. The mind behind the tool dictates it's use. I have personal experience with saving a life more than once with a firearm, my own included. It's unfortunate but if a gun was not available a killer will use anything to accomplish his intent. Gun ownership is an American tradition and a Constitutional right. It's an important symbol of a free society. This death is Not an example of gun ownership if Florida. It is simply what it is, one human killing another.
However, Florida's legal access to guns makes the crime deadlier since a person, such as this victim, died due to a gunshot wound rather than a knife wound. Typically, you hear about a person getting a "good shot" at a person rather than a "good stab".

Because stories re: white or black men killing their girlfriends appears to be unimportant to you since they are the standard in south Florida. The "Hispanic culture" tweaks your attention, that's all.

In plantation we need more policemen. I see every day a lot of strange people circuling different areas.
I suggest cameras in the parking lot in every mall of plantation
I suggest more vigilance in the areas with food stores, discotheque, department stores and movies.
Police should develop a strong comunication with the residents in order to stop crime

Why did Mr. Lopez pull the triger? Having a handgun sure helped protect him from his girlfriend.

Justifiable homicide because he had his CWP and it was self defense....

why did the girl stay with a scumbag like that, surely she knew he was a wannabe gangster with a gun. Did she have no self-worth or no self-confidence? Well no matter how dumb she was she did not deserve to die, she will be laughing at him while he roasts in hell for eternity.

Another idiot American who's most probably never set foot outside the U.S. You must love Sarah Palin!
Crawl out of your log cabin long enough Davie Crocket and you'll realize most of the "free world" place significant restricitions on gun ownership - and you don't see them being downtrodden by their respective government.

Like China (only 1 child policy) or our neighbor Canada that almost had a civil war 3 years ago?

I went to a citizens academy when I lived in Indiana. A captain of that muncipality proudly informed our class that they have guns and weapons of military grade that common civilians cannot obtain. Most likely the weapons will never be used against us as I'm sure they are kept for emergencies. But I wasn't really comforted that our local police have access to those types of weapons.

What makes you think that only law abiding citizens own hand guns. I own guns, I have owned them all my life, I have three children who grew up with guns in the house. Nothing ever happened. Why? because to them it has never been a mystery toy. It has always been a deadly weapon. They have learned to respect the gun, not fear it. Now they are all adults and all are gun carriers. I pray nothing ever happens to anyone, but if push comes to shove, then my children are ready to shove back. I will always be thankful that our forefathers had the insight to write those immortal words.“the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. I know the victim, by association and wish nothing the worst for this animal who took the life of a beautiful girl at such an early age. My prayers to the family who are left to insure that justice will prevail. But it is no the gun, it is the human that killed this girl.

Amen to that!
Great Brittan has recently outlawed any and ALL firearm ownership by its private citizens. Not only has crime escalated, in Biblical proportions, but crimes committed with KNIVES have gone up some 740 percent: Same thing in Australia. Since they outlawed private firearms ownership, they’re overall crime rate has gone up almost 800 percent!
Yet, there is a little town in Georgia where firearms ownership, and training, is mandatory. Want to guess what their crime rate is? With the exception of some random vandalism, violent crime is virtually non-existent. Explain that!
