Hello,
I am a very concern parent, my son is currently attending Pride Academy Charter and this is his first and last year. He is in the 8th grade and was transfer from Patrick Healy to Pride Academy for a better education. Since he been at this school, he have been suspended twice from the same teacher who teaches Art, his me is Mr Stewark. The first incident the student were line up in the hallway and my son friend was walking slow so because he did not want him, his friend and the rest of his team mates to get in trouble for getting to class late, he tap hs friend on the shoulder to advise him to walk up so they wouldnot get in trouble. This art teacher, who saw from the top of the stair said that my son abruptly push another student and report him to Ms Browser, who gave him a one day suspension. Mind you the Art teacher did not speak to my son for his side of the story and my son friend told the Art teacher that my son did not push him, this happen 3 weeks ago. Now the second incident is what we currently going through from the same Art teacher. My son was not feeling well and is getting over a cold, during class he had a terrible headache and putting his head down over his right arm was twirling his pen through his finger, the same Art teacher call him outside the classroom and said to my son, why he was holding his pen as a gun, my son told him that he only put his head down and just twirl his pen. The Art teacher sent him to Ms Browers, who suspended my son for a mininum of one day or until he receive a psychiatric evaluation from a mental doctor. I can't believe this is happening, my son never got suspended fom his prior school until he came to Pride academy. I really need help because the principal is not assisting and letting this happen. My husband have call NJ Department Of Education For Charter Schools and even the person at answer te phone said that this was harsh punishment against my son. We are waiting to hear back from the commisioner who handles East Orange Charter School because she was in a meeting. We will go to every local news if we don't hear back from the commissioner. PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN ASSIST OR GIVE A SUGGESTION WILL BE GRATELY APPRECIATED. My son is nervous and very scare to go back to school because of this Art teacher and Ms Browser.

I previously posted in June of 2012 in this forum. I was so scared to send my child here, because of all of the negative posts. I went on ahead and ending up sending my child to Pride Academy. I am so glad I did. So far my experience with the school has been a good one. My daughter has not been suspended at all, so I really don't know what actually goes on with the other students on this post that they were suspended. But I also don't play at all with my daughter and she knows that. I feel like the education she is receiving is a good one also. I feel just like the other parent, hart middle and costley are completely out of control and compared with that Pride Academy has proven to me to be waaaay better. My advice to parents is to experience it for yourselves. The comments on here are only from a handful of parents not the whole student body of parents. If I would have just listened to the comments my daugther would be stuck at hart middle in the middle of chaos.

Pride academy is a great educational charter school. Mrs. Thomas is very kind and greets and shakes students hands in the morning which is very polite to do. Ms. Brower does suspend alot of students, but only does that as a result of bad bahavior. She is also very nice. The rest of the teachers are nice. Pride academy is a great school for your child to get a good education

Comments on here is only a handful because a lot of parents do not know what really be going in in the school or do not know what to do. Its only matter if time when all parents need to come together. As long as your child in this school you will see what the "handful of parents" are trying to say. One day you will see and remember that the comments on here are true.

Yes she does which is why I video record our meeting one day with Ms Bowser and Ms Thomas. I will send it to every news station to see what really do be going on in this school.
Ms. Bowser is doing what fiona tells her to do!
Parents, by the time you feel you have to film meetings...most likely the damage has already been done. Our taxes pay their salaries! They work for us! Demand better or replace that administration. Wonder why the City Of Orange NJ refused to allow Pride Academy to open in Orange, NJ? Do your homework! Go online and research! Talk with parents that was under that administration when that administration was better known as Lady Liberty Academy in Newark, NJ.

I am currently attending Pride Academy Charter School and I must admit that this school is in total disarray and turmoil. The teachers and admissions treat the students horribly and they consistently make us feel as though we are inferior and incompetent. Not to mention, the teachers are extremely unprofessional. For example, there are faculty cliques and if you are not in the "in crowd" with the Dean of Students Ms.Brower or Teacher Supervisor Ms.Cenac you are looked down
upon and students pick up on it. The majority of the teachers feel as though by writing up students and suspending them will earn them brownie points and earn there way into the ideal clique. Just to give you an idea the teacher supervisor was in a relationship with her assistant and the whole student body knows about the situation. The education is not up to par and if you are getting honors at Pride Academy you are lucky enough to even receive a C grade at a school up to par when you leave Pride Academy. As a student planning to leave this poor excuse of an establishment I have to receive extra help outside of school to stay up to par with other well developed schools. Pride Academy is huge front and is not what they say they are. When you first walk in the school you will see a "welcoming" and "happy" environment but as student attending the school it is truly a depressing and an antagonizing school.
I couldn't agree more as a current student there the last part about the environment and stuff is too true

Parents, you do not have to take your children out of pride academy. You can replace the administration staff...and teachers. When parents realize that they have more power than staff and teachers, our children will be treated and taught by teachers that have their teacher's license!!! How many teachers at pride have New Jersey Teachers License? How many years have they taught? You all will be surprised when you go online and find out for yourself!!!!!
Better still, ask to see their license!!!!

Good schools and staff are the responsibility of parents!! Parents MUST replace both the administration staff...and teachers. When parents realize that they have more power than staff and teachers, our children will be treated as treasures and taught by teachers that have their teacher's license!!! How many teachers at pride academy have New Jersey Teachers License? How many years have they taught? You all will be surprised when you go online and find out for yourself!!!!! Our children need adults that will demand their rights...not take them from school to school!!!

Your child should not have been suspended once. Being disrespectful to a teacher is not acceptable, I agree, but what could she have possibly said to the teacher that required a suspension? why couldnt she get a lunch detention or after school detention. To make her miss a whole day of school is not benefical to her.
so... why not leave?

You will get the enjoyable walk about and the sales pitch.
but here's a solution: why don't you or someone out there create flyer inviting all the children of Pride Academy to go on this forum and log in anonymously and rate the school, and give anecdotes of the horrors or enjoyments of the school?
I AM WAITING.

You are so young. That's okay, when you have your own children...

Seems like she should be teaching how to spell.
