U.S. attorney's office and the state police in new jersey was so intent in removing the Italian mafia from the streets of new jersey and look at what the streets look like today. In 1976 the so called mobsters protected north newark from any outside element. The streets of new jersey were a lot safer in those days. As you noticed in the last election for govenor neither canidate even mentioned gangs, it's a shame because if the mob guy's could control the streets why can't law enforcement and I'm surely not blaming your local police officer because these guys are putting their lives on the line every day.
