The main reservoirs of Lyme disease are mice and shrews - not deer. There are various studies that demonstrate this.
From the standpoint of Lyme, it is about useless to slaughter deer.

Okay, I cannot disagree with you there, but what about from the standpoint of forest preservation and from the standpoint of safety? When I was a child living in northern New York, we had a plate glass window that faced some woods behind the house. While watching TV, a full grown buck came crashing down the hill and through the plate glass window.
Also, what about the standpoint of placing food on people's tables? If this program will feed people and keep the forest preserved, it should be allowed.
