1 I also wrote under the assumption that your name is merely another persona of Oregon is miserable/pathetic/disgusting. If it's not you, then my post was a bit aggressive. However, you clearly are a whiny bitch. The people you describe in your rants are the very outsiders (like yourself) that are turning this great state into another liberal cesspool of self loathing and apathy. I still think you are Eeyore, But if not......I dub thee Piglet. Lil guy? LOL Grow up. |

It seems that y'all are confusing "Portland" with "Oregon"... Portland has a lot of negative qualities; thieving meth-heads, filthy bums on every corner, angry Washington drivers, lots of rain, etc. But Oregon as a whole is an amazing and wonderful place. It's absolutely beautiful here, get out of the City and the people are fantastic, the outdoors is one-of-a-kind, the beaches are phenomenal, I just can't say enough. There's just so much to love here, once you leave the I-5 corridor. I love the awsome little towns from Dufur, to Condon, to Coquille, to Waldport. Get out of P-town and go see OREGON!!!
|
|
Then come to filthy L.A. Plenty of smokestacks,(and car farts) and I guarantee a wide array of people to flip ya the bird. Birds are everywhere in L.A County. I was born in Portland 45 years ago, left when I was 21, and although I have a sister there, I never went back. But I suspect that you have not been to downtown Portland yet. The gangs were taking over when I left almost 25 years ago. Sounds like enough carnage for anyone. |

I would like to add Seaside, Astoria, and the coastal areas. I just remembered how much I missed them. |

I have been an Oregonian since 1963 (minus a stint in the US Army). I frequently encounter both rude and nice people every day, although some peple do seem to be faking it!

Actually it's the lack of sun, selenium, and iodine. Oregon has shortages in the natural soil/ water environment. These things all effect your bones, teeth, and all kinds of health issues. this equals ugly, crippled, etc. Yeah, I have noticed it too, having seen other states with healthier climate and environment. The sun makes your bones, teeth, etc healthy and beautiful.++++less arthritis, and all kinds of other disease. Being stuck indoors cuz of the rain and cold....bad for exercise. iodine deficiency equals thyroid problems, equals fat, and lethargy.....on and on. But trash? people's exterior is only part of the equation. I have also noticed, that Californicators are pretty unintelligent, due to apparently less time reading or less time in school or whatever it is. We are smarter up here in Oregon even if we do lose our health. It's a Californication trait, be dumb and not know it. |

but, what i really hate about oregon (not my native state: that would be washington), is this: there are no social services to speak of, and thousands of locals without a roof over their head. The politicians seem to be really out for their selfish whatever motives, not caring at all about the people. And there's too many out of staters moving through and then leaving, creating instablity and no one seems to know their neighbors very well at all. bad scene.
also, hardly any good supportive churches that really have thriving communities, something that should be taking the place of that neighborhood village mentality that is so missing in most places. i have lived here most of the time, since about 1965. |

1 I agree with almost everything you said. However as far as californians being stupid, I beg do differ. California has one of the best economies in the country. Their economy rivals that of some countries. Oregon, on the other hand, has one of the worst. I'm amazed at how "stupid" people can do so well. Oregonians can't even drive prperly. I think the weather does have something to do with it, everyone in the NW seems to be walking around in a fog! |

1 I thought you were headed out? What’s up? Just yesterday it was confirmed Portland real-estate prices have fallen less than even Washington’s (state) and less than the vast majority of the nation! That means you could snag a little double-shotgun somewhere in Texas with cash to spare! You agree with any idiotic putdown on Oregon but disagree with an equivalent complement? You’re hardup to bash something – anything - aren’t you? Same suggestion – LEAVE! If not – why not? Goth, you go to church? There’s no lack of churches in Oregon! But if there’s a lack of attendance it’s because Oregonian’s have a lot better things to do outside. Community? Have you lived in any? Small towns evoke “Community,” not suburban or metro sprawl. When life’s harsh people generally work closer with each other just to survive; but it’s not that harsh where the bulk of Oregonian’s live. Try east of the Cascades, they need community, if not churches. Social service and politicians are nearly one-in-the-same; if the electorate is wooed by a “No new Taxes” mantra - they end up with No new Services… As a state, Oregon’s likely up with the top 10 regarding programs for their citizens. But the Republicans had their way here too, and many services go unfunded. Vote right, or should that be “left?” And how many Oregonian’s do you suspect are living off the land -- especially the “fat ones?” You’re way off, and I’d put Oregonian’s health up against that of any other state. Granted, after the anti-exercise and jelly-bean diet of Reagan American youth have never been the same. Exercise was out and junkfood was in! But all of America’s too fat – not just “Oregon.” Trace elements are found in food and vitamin supplements; and as far as sunshine, our pigment regulates that. As mentioned, maybe I should ignore this foolish state-bashing … too many people here for my taste, but the problem is – it’s my state (no matter where Topix claims I’m at)! Grow up kids! If not – Move Out -- apparently someone keeps leaving the gate open! |

Neal, this is getting quite old! It seems to me that you should practice what you preach. All you seem to do is attack people who have a negative opinion of Oregon and side with those that don't. I see that you have finally figured out that this thread is not pro Oregon. People come on this thread to vent their frustrations about this state. You may think it's paradise, but others do not. Maybe it would make more sense if you went to a pro Oregon thread to spread your gospel. As far as me leaving, August won't come soon enough, but when it does, GOOD RIDDENCE! Some people may not be able to leave right away for various reasons, but I think it's pretty healthy you vent your frustrations rather than holding them in and being miserable! GET A LIFE!!! |

1 Not so fun when it’s in your face but all kinds of fun when you’re flinging it? Tuff! If “this” is getting so “old”– why come back for more? If you want to form a sorry little club that takes turns sitting in each other’s basement bitching about “Oregon,” have at it! But when you start spewing bile online don’t expect this Native Oregonian to take it! So in August well be rid of you?“GOOD RIDDENCE!” But your problems are much deeper and broader than the ‘state’ in which you live … and I doubt you’ll shake them or get away with blaming them on a State – any State. I’ve got a life, in fact, quite rich. Question: is the VA providing you with any mental counseling (at our expense)? If not, you’d better get in line. What I’ve seen you “vent” is far more than simple announces… But speaking of “announces,” I was giving some thought to ‘this’ criticism of “Oregonian’s” while out and about yesterday. But my conclusion wasn’t that morbidly obese, manor-less incompetent parents with cocky aggressive males (and their “republican” goatees) rising the next generation of aggressors are an Oregon phenomena – they’re an American Problem! I’d likely be as sickened at what I’d witness at any fast-food restaurant or retail outlet across this nation – the bulk of America and Americans are sick – physically and mentally. They lack discipline, manors, health and could be best described as uncouth. And if you find yourself surrounded by the same – don’t blame them on the state of Oregon – blame them on the State of this Nation! |

Sorry bud, you don't have a life. You spend your days trying to change peoples minds about your dump of a state which you don't seem to even be in. And as far as not being able to take it? Your comments have no effect on me because you are one of those people who's opinion does not matter to me. To me, you are the lowest form of life on Earth. So, do us all a favor and pull that dick out of your ass and enjoy dancing in the rain of your po-dunk state! Have a nice day! |

1 For someone “with a life” your response time is phenomenal!…if not your asinine response… No wonder you’re so angry and depressed … scared to go outside? But somehow I suspect your neighborhood’s far safer with you on the keyboard than behind the wheel, or with your finger on a trigger… “Dump of a state”? Just where are you from anyway – and why-the-hell are you here? And for the umpteenth time – I’m in Oregon – only you and Topic can’t seem to figure that out. But don’t hold your breath for an invite to dinner; you’d likely scare the dog (not easy)! And if you won’t admit which state “raised you,” maybe you’ll share with us which state you’re headed to (I won’t hold my breath). You’re really gonna have a problem if you think the vulgar insults you’ve used in the military are going to work in the real world, or even cyberspace. Try one on out on the next cop you disagree with; or your next boss, or your next father-in-law… You embarrass America! |

1 San Diego! Could it be? Rid of you?! Enjoy your energy consumptive far-right military compound and ultra expensive man-made surroundings -- just hope Oregon doesn’t pull the hydro plug on you! “Dumb?” I’m still in Oregon – who you calling dumb?! In other words – I WON!-- but thanks for the laugh. Sorry Cal … at least he’s in the appropriate city, keep a close eye on him though – call it Homeland Security -- he’s ready to blow! |

1 I’m a proud product of the Portland Public Schools – and PCC to boot! But if you’re longing for some rightwing charm, try Canby, Gresham or Newberg – Portland sound’s far too progressive for you. |
