Just trying to find out if anyone has any news on how hard hit Surf City was? My in-laws had to evacuate and are now told it could be 5-10 days before they are let back on. They have no idea what type of damage there is. Anyone from Surf City who stuck it out during the storm and in the vicinity of 2nd Street? They have dealt with a lot these past few months and it would be a huge relief just to know what they're walking back into. Thanks!

Talked to my sister in law who lives on S. 2nd at 9 AM. Of course no electric. She got water in the rear bedroom which was on a slab. Her house is about 3 to 3 1/2 up. Water came up to the last step but did NOT come into the house. After seeing the pictures, I think it was a miracle. She stayed thru the storm and said Monday night was very rough. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!

I don't have any specifics on Surf City but it's right next to Long Beach Island which took major damage. I wish you the best.

We live at 47 South 1st Street, Surf City across the street from the Ocean Bay Market. I know that the Ocean Bay Market which is behind South 2nd Street is lower than the Northeast side of South 1st.

Any news on South 1st Street, beach block or the Ocean Bay Market?

The Ocean Bay Market is fine, though it flooded inside. Any products on the lower shelves floated and an ice machine tipped over. I know the tenants in the apartment above.

Anyone have info on the area of 6th St in Surf City?
Understand that no one is allowed back onto the island yet and it may be several more days.
Also does anyone know of other links to picutres for the storm damage on LBI.

The Atlantic City Press has a good amount of shots from Surf City(midway thru Gallery) I hope this link works:

I saw an aerial shot over S 2nd Street EJ Elementary School/County library area. School looks dry but library and area around still look surrounded by water. Bayside and ocean block look dry. Water still collecting around Central.

The aerial picture I was referring to comes from this link from the SandPaper. Several pictures in the beginning are of other parts of the island. The south end Surf City picture is three down after the last shot of helicopter carrying the Governor/President. You will see the school in the top right and library under in blue.

This on line Sand Paper site will give you a real good idea of what we're going back to.

I also know Eddy who rents the apartment over the store. Please ask him if our home across from the market (which is a duplex 47 and 45) has any obvious damage, windows broken, etc.

Someone told us that the home in back of us had 2 feet of water in the first floor.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

I just saw your question. I txtd Eddie Jr., and he will check for you tomorrow in the daylight and let me know. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from him. They just had electric restored about three hours ago but remain without heat due to the gas to the Island being shut off. There is no telling when it will be restored the entire length of the Island. The entire infrastructure is in need of replacement.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! My husband and I talked to Ed and his son Eddy, Jr. just a week before the hurricane. They were going fishing and Ed gave us some bluefish.

I closed all the blinds in the house to try to keep out any glass that may have been broken. We have siding on the house, but I think that someone could still tell if the water came up because there might be a line on the siding. My home is 47 South 1st. Ed knows our home. My brother-in-law owns the house next door (#45). It is red asbestos shingles, not siding like our side.

We have a table and chairs on the back deck. They may, or may not have been moved by any water that we got.

I appreciate very much that you are asking Eddy, Jr. to do this, and that Eddy, Jr. will do this for us.

Hopefully, someday, if we ever get back to the Island, I will get a chance to meet you in person to thank you.

Have a nice day.

I just heard via a neighbor that homeowners may be allowed on the island for a 2 hour window Sun or Mon. I can't confirm it anywhere. It may be wishful thinking on someone's part or nasty joke. Does anyone have a info about this? Thanks
