Just take a look around folks.Big grand new buildings being built for the goverment of Dare co.They are the largest employer of the county.I look at the roads in Manteo and almost all of them are in bad shape except the newly paved road that goes to publc works area.When is your money going start doing things for you?We have low crime but they keep hiring more police and are always looking for new ways to raise your taxes.Now I can't even light a sparkler in Nags Head on the forth of July.Is it just me seeing this or what?

Dare County has spent way too much on their new building on Roanoke Island, It's extravagant--just like the courthouse. Meanwhile, commercial buidlings sit empty in Manteo.

Why in world did they need to spend another load of money for an addition to the new government building when there is plenty of space in the newly remodeled high school? Here we are in a recession and yet they continue to spend money like it's going out of style. Keep spending commissioners, soon there won't be anyone at your meetings, b/c they won't be able to afford the drive.

I visited the new county building in Manteo yesterday for the first time. I voted there in the primary. The building is a bit much. Like the courthouse, it has a vast area at the entrance that is open to the second story. Yes, we're paying to heat that dead space.

Rumors are already circulating about the new county adm. building that you can put a marble on the floor and it will roll to the other side of the building; and, not to mention the $500 chairs.
Why couldn't the county use ANY OF THE FURNISHINGS FROM THE OLD BUILDING? Because they want to gouge us?
Is there going to be a grand opening? Ribbon cutting? or are the commissioners too embarrassed to stand before us? What's next? A Grand All Purpose Senior Citizens Center For the Manteo Elite. Wait until that building sits alone side of the ATM (Administrative Taj Mahal) and the SJC (sinking justice center). Cash Corner on Roanoke Island is beginning to look like something the Romans built.

Another concern about county commissioners wasting our money: after the original contract for their new Taj Mahal, the commissioners added a building extension for their meeting room. When I went to the new county building to vote in the primary, I voted in a huge room near the front door. Why can't they hold their meetings in that room?

Will somebody in this county government please do something about the roads around here? Please!

Hey sunspro...haven't you heard...the huge room you voted in is supposed to be turned into the county manager's break room...complete with a batting cage and snack bar..

Good one...maybe someone should tell the story of why Wheeler was fired from the Highway Patrol, or is that too mean?

Those of you that think the county is not spending too much on itself, please tell us why you believe that.

Lets ask the commissioners how they plan to balance the budget....

I know. STEAL money from the E911 tax dollars that have accumulated to enhance and improve the system. Thats right, they took every penny from that fund, that is exclusively for the E911 system. the extra "tax" that is on everyone's phone bill specifically for the system was taken and went to the County's budget!

That money, plus other monies promised 18 months ago for other things were basically stolen.

Was so much better back in the day when our County was run by Republicans. Not that they don't lie too, but we were better off.

What isn't spent on huge buildings is spent feeding and clothing the illegals and their offspring. Been to the health dept or social services lately?

Warren Judge and his cronies have no respect for the taxpayers' dollars. He blew five times that amount on lawyers and lobbyists trying to get beach nourishment. What's $100,000 when you're spending someone else's money? Unbelievable, especially when you consider how much money the tourist bureau has and spends every year trying to clog our highway with more tourists.

there are tough times ahead for dare county government. wait until the commissioners start spending money on that new meeting place building...and ask the taxpayers to pay the bill by increasing taxes. its coming.
