I am the grandfather of the child that was left in the car. I have followed this case closely and interacted with the prosecution during the case. My comment has to do with the sentencing. Your report is not totally accurate. Shaylee was sentenced to 30 days for breaking the window out of the sheriffs car(a felony)and 30 days for leaving the child in the car unattended while she got drunk in the bar(a misdemeanor).Unfortunately the sentences are to be served concurrently so she is only going to serve 30 days total on work release. A misdemeanor for leaving a child alone in the dark on a freezing night. What if she had not been caught and tried to drive home while intoxicated. It is terrifying to think of the horrific situation Shaylee placed this child in. This law needs to be changed. Since2005 there have been 744 child deaths in the U.S. attributed to unattended children in vehicles.
I personally plan to contact our state legislature and see what I can do to raise this statute to a felony as it should be.The court was outraged at her actions but were limited as to what sentence they could impose as the law stands now. Mr. Ramsey, I am very glad your precious grandaughter is safe and unharmed. And it's good you are planning on contacting your state legislature concerning this issue of safeguarding children from negligent parents. While your at it, will you PLEASE bring up the issue of Zach Sweazy, who's faith healing parents allowed him to die of a burst appendix, undiagnosed and untreated.

The laws concerning child safety need to be changed, and the courts need to be just as outraged over issues such as these unneccessary deaths and other negligent actions by irresponsible parents.
Thank you
