i really know what you are talking about and if you work for the odrc then you know that somethig has to happen be for they will do anything and i worked at a ohio prison for 15 years and i saw alot happen that should not have happen but no one wants to listen to the officer's they wait untill something to happen and a officer has to be almost killed then something may change, but that is only if it gets out about what happen im so happy that im retired and i dont have to work in such an unsafe place where no one cares if you make it out or not.......but i will say this i pray for all of you just like i did for myself when i was there and i hope that each day you return to your family the same way that you left..

My husband works at another prison and the same situation is there to... I have to worry about him everyday and it seems like the State or Administration, whatever you want to call them, do not want to spend the money to prosecute, etc these inmates that in turn sends them back out into a society, that they are still unable to function in. A percentage of them end right back in there all over again. Our Corrections system is flawed, and is not doing a good job correcting anything.

I work in a prison and I know how some CO's are. They bully inmates like animals and eventually the animal bites back. I am a CO and I despise the ignoramous people they hire sometimes. The public just doesn't understand. I think anybody hired in a prison should have a college degree and respect for mankind. Most people in prison got caught making a mistake and are now paying heavily for it. And most power trippin staff who get assaulted deserve it. After all, the general population keeps itself in check.

No one should have to go to work and worry that they may not return to their family!! The administration at the prisons and ODRC's (Central Office) do NOT worry about if the employees go home safely or not. Fact is, they DO GO HOME SAFELY!!!! They are NOT out there where the danger is. They sit behind a desk all day. The spokesman for the DRC, Julie Walburn, has NO clue how serious the injuries are to the employees. I think it is totally unfair for her to say that the employess injuries were not serious. How serious do the injuries have to be? Is DEATH serious enough? They ARE sending out a message to the inmates and the inmates are watching closely, you can be sure of that. There will be serious injuries, it is only a matter of time!!! But instead of the inmates getting punished for it, the employee will be fired!! That is how the department works!!! Find fault with the employee, not at the perputrator.!!

Yes our CORRECTion system is flawed...cost money to fix anything, and in this state of the Economy- our State budget says,"Tough luck CS"....There's No easy/cheap fix, but talk has always been free...Right now all society can afford/wants is a WALL between itself and criminals....would love to see the figures/budget cut the State performed on our prison system....

Are you a CO or do you work in the office too, behind a desk with NO DIRECT CONTACT with the inmates. Are you a employee that gets punished for doing your job rather than get the appreciation that is deserved? The employees,(The true, real employees, especially the guards, and the nurses) do NOT get the appreciation they deserve!! When they try to do their job, then they are reprimand or FIRED!!!

The Department of Corrections has gone on a very mean spirited, abusive binge in the past couple years, taking away prisoners programs, even arts and crafts the prisoners can pay for themselves, limiting boxes to expensive ones with cheap goods from catalogs, mistreating and harrassing prisoners, especially in Mansfield and Chillicothe Correctional. These are human beings doing their time. The law does not say they have to be mistreated, just being confined away from society is their punishment. There are over 6,000 "old law" prisoners denied parole and who have served years beyond the sentence they were supposed to serve, and they are angy and bitter because they have earned paroles and are denied freedom. LET THOSE OLD LAW PRISONERS GO, and there would be less stress, less crowding, and hundreds of millions would be freed up for programs and more staff to reduce tension. The administration of our prison system has CREATED this tension so they can say they need more money. No, the parole board, which is part of the Department, DENIES THE PAROLES, COSTING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND CREATING TENSIONS, LACK OF HOPE, AND BITTERNESS. THOSE PRISONERS ARE STILL PEOPLE AND PEOPLE REACT TO MISTREATMENT WITH REBELLION. The Governor needs to get the prison system revamped from the top down, as it is an executive agency he controls. He can fire the current administrator if he wanted to. the governor should know better. He worked in Lucasville.

I honestly believe that exconserative is an Administrative staff employee and not a CO. He obviously doesn't have any direct contact with the inmates as the guards and nursing staff do. He would know that no matter how you treat the inmates they will turn on you in an instant! I have dealt with many inmates that have shown respect but don't think for a minute that they wouldn't turn on you. Many of them have nothing to lose, many are "Lifers" and many know that nothing will be done to them so they don't care, they do what they want. People have the right to their opinion but until you work in a prison and know what goes on "inside the walls", then you really don't have a clue.

Having worked in Corrections(ODRC)myself as a RN, I can tell you that Corrections is a very hostile work environment. I'm not sure which is worse...the employees or the inmates....regardless most of the inmates are sociopaths (anti-social personalty disorders)so you can't trust them...they're manipulative con-artists...But hey...working for the State of Ohio has its benefits....good pay....good benefits....and good retirement....I'm not sure I'd want to work as an actual guard especially in a high security prison such as Lucasville....ouch.Screaming and yelling at people....angry all the time....back talk....Holy crap!

If only the public knew how much of their money was spent...wasted on health care for inmates. Inmates with dozens and dozens of visits to hospitals all because the ACLU fights for the inmates to have a right to write home. Guess what, they are not writing home. They are swolling that pen or pencil and costing the taxpayers thousands of dollars. Let's take away pens and pencils from these people and with that saved money you could afford more COs, give them better training, and make our prisons safer.

the answer is simple keep them locked up from the ti me they get there till the time they leave dont let them out of their cells for nothing and i mean nothing and if the do assault somebody its another 10 years 1 st time 20 years 2nd time life 3 rd time i am sure that will change a few minds and if that doesnt work stop feeding them for a week or two that might change there mind alittle and if that still doesnt work put them to sleep

Then find another job!!! Last time I checked it was in the employee handbook, as well as the job description that was signed upon hiring!!!

It doesn't take a college degree to control
the inmates. It takes understanding. But in turn
the inmates need to know your just doing your job.
There are some very vicious people in prison, not all are innocent of their crimes as they try to make you believe they are.

Exconservative, you talking about the CO's needing to have a degree to work at a prison is so wrong! My husband has been a CO for almost twenty years and he has no degree and I bet he is a better officer than anyone with a degree. That is what is wrong with the prison system today is that they have educated idiots in there! You take a person with a degree gets moved up the ladder without having the experience they need to do their job. When it comes to a situation they have no idea how to handle it because they have no experience. I think that it should be the way it was 15 years ago - you move up by experience and knowledge not education!!!!!!!!!!
