Storrs Man Killed In Collision

Police identified the man as Patrick J. Smith, 39, of 12 Spring Hill Road, Apt. A, in Storrs.

I was there minutes after the crash - headed south on Rt-32.:-(
Most intersections can be designed to prevent crashes like this one. ConnDOT is reluctant to construct Roundabouts at intersections because "people don't like them". This is the "seatbelt law" mentality. Doesn't matter that they are safe, right?
There is plenty of room at this intersection (Rt32 & Rt 195) for a Roundabout - the intersection was just reconstructed. Pat Smith died needlessly.

To the writer of the article - Rt-195 is basically an E/W road.

Stop the slaughter! Build Roundabouts!

Patrick is my best friend's brother. Patrick was like a brother to me. I have know Patrick since he was about the age of Patrick's son, who is 11 years old now.

pat was the best uncle anyone could ever ask for. he was not really my uncle but he was a neighbor of mine for about 5 years. I have known him since i was around 7 years old. He was my best friends Mothers boyfriend. When they split up he became really close to my family. I'v known his son dakota before he could talk in full sentences!

I am Pats brother, he was The Best. He loved his son more than anything and I will miss him for the rest of my life. On another issue, Troop C Stafford has not corrected the accident report yet...Pat was hit by a man who left the scene of the accident and that is not reflected on the police report. Trooper Hickey is the reporting officer, det. Lettig also of Troop C did tell me that Lebeau (the other driver) did in fact leave the scene and drove another 1/2 mile further North on Rt. 32 causing another accident. Michael, you are absolutely right- Patrick was tops.And he will be greatly missed by all. It's too bad the authorities are treating this the way they are. I have no doubts that all will be set right. What goes around comes around.
