And yet alcohol is still legal. I've never heard a good reason why it should not be in the same category as mj, cocaine, heroin...oh that's right..taxes, lobbyists in bed with politicians, and double standards are why it's legal.
Did you miss the whole rigormorole about the Constitutional amendments regarding prohibition? Maybe you should read the 18th and 21st amendments to the Constitution of the United States.
Just as with the abortion argument, in which both parties have valid arguments, but neither side can acknowledge the other's validity, so it is with lots of self righteous knotheads like yourself.
As with abortion, it may be a highly questionable activity, but people are going to do it regardless, so the path of least harm is regulation and taxation so as to minimize the dangers associated with black market operations. The argument for legalization of marijuana is similar.
If you still refuse to accept our policy, any one of several muslim nations have illegalized alcohol. Perhaps you should consider emigration. With Google even you should be able to navigate the bereaucracy.

I'm glad to see that others kinda see things my way. After all, considering it took 3 DUIs and the taking of a life for him to realize that life will no longer be the same for him..that he destroyed not only his family (and this is nothing new..I'm sure he has been stoned and drunk with his kids) but he destroyed an innocent family and all because he wants to be a partier and get drunk and stoned..ooooh, thats cool! Yea, what a man and father figure he is. What a great guy! Just think of all the stories he can tell his kids and grand kids one day. You must be out of your mind to defend this Matt Burch. Matt made his own bed and now it's time for him to lie in it. Too bad for all the judgemental comments brought upon him. Who did this to Matt? Here is the answer...Matt Burch did this to Matt Burch. Matt Burch has no one to blame but Matt Burch. Matt Burch will certainly take more criticism in the future from the general public.

He's not a bad person. He just made a really big mistake.I know that there's nothing he can do to bring back the young life that he took, but it's not right for everyone to want the courts to use him as an example.I mean think about if it was someone in your family, would you want them to be used as an example.Matt deserves a fair trial just like everyone else.He is going to get time, that's without a doubt, but I know him personally and I know his personality. He's not a bad person. He's a wonderful husband for his wife, and an outstanding father to his children. He's not the type of person that would go out and just kill someone,or as many people like to label him,he's NOT A MURDERER.Drinking is something that everyone does from time to time. And everyone takes it a little too far sometimes. This time that it happened a young boy's life just happened to be taken.I understand that what he did could definately have been avoided, but then again "everything happens for a reason".
You've got to be kidding a good husband and father out all hours of the night smoking dope and driving drunk(caught twice) and now a third time. Normal drinkers don't have 3 DUIs he a drunk, believe it or not his family will be much better off without the drunk around the house. Hope he learns something while he's in jail.......like he can drink safely

I find this whole situation just mind boggling. Here we have an individual who has driven drunk 2 previous times, smokes marijuana, has a laundry list of traffic offenses and was a licensed driver at the time of this fatal accident. Then we have an individual who maintains that he is a "good person and a "good father" and an overall goody 2 shoes. As a visitor, I cannot believe the circus antics of this state. This guy, Burch, needs a long and lengthy prison sentence and whoever is stating that he is the next best thing to sliced bread needs to seek a mental health professional. Good luck.

First of all not everybody gets drunk, not everybody takes it to far sometimes. Yes I drink but I have NEVER NEVER NEVER got behind the wheel when doing so, If I have one drink the keys go to somebody else. You have got to be a idiot, this was his 3rd time, what a great father, let me guess he has drove with his kids while drunk, Fantastic role model there! I hope he spends the next 18 years in jail, that way he can miss all his kids birthdays, and christmas holidays. If I had my way he would never see the light of day again

Update:
I've been told that third time is the charm. Not so, for Matt Burch.

Burch pleaded not guilty to a felony DUI charge (his third), as well as not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and to a direct indictment of felony homicide. He is now scheduled to appear in Circuit Court on July 13, 09. Hope his excuses for his despicable behavior are in order...

Oh yeah, but what about his family and friends who are coming on these sites and belittling Christopher? I have seen quite a few folks on here pointing fingers at the boy who was killed, blaming him by saying just cause he has family in jail hes a bad person. Well if thats the case, God help Matthew Burch's children..means they surely will be bad folks who deserve jail later on when they grow up.

Where's the outrage for the 25% of teens who are are drinking and driving? Personally I don't think people under 18 need to be driving.
what about our hero, Off. Womble. The man spent his life sitting in front of bars like shooting fish in a bucket, just so he could get some drunk ticket award. What goes around, comes around. I am always suspious of one who is on a mission to play the 'gotchya game' like Womble did. Now he is going to lockup.
