So my kid's school (Eastport Elementary) goes on lockdown.. We don't hear details of what happened until we read the lamest watered-down story in Newsday about 2 men who allegedly broke into an Eastport home, tied up a woman and had her husband go to the bank and withdraw a large amount of money. The bank was suspicious and called the police, who went to the home to find the wife tied up in her car and the suspects fled.

Newsday of course offered no description of these men; who according to other news sources were black men between 25-35... 1 tall skinny and the other short and fat.

The story has seemingly fallen off the planet. These men were never caught.
Was the story a hoax? Something about it doesn't pass my smell-test, but then again, I only know what these stupid papers tell me.
Does anyone here have news??

Alot of rumors are going around that it was all a hoax. No hostage took place. It could have been insurance fraud claim. 40,000 was withdrawn from their account and supposedly jewelry stolen. They in turn file an insurance claim.

Did they ever catch the people who did it? Odd that Newsday never followed up on such a big story. You may have been there but the story smells fishy.. Like a self inflicted insurance scam the couple pulled. Why did this story just vanish? Particularly since it was compared to that of the awful case in Connecticut. Doesn't add up.
