I've noticed that Central market carries a brand of Scrapple that is fair, but not quite how I like it. With all the Germans in the area there have to be a few old-school butcher shops that make good scrapple. Fredericksburg? New Braunfels? Elgin?

I was just asking that question myself after spending Thanksgiving week in central PA and having good scrapple every morning. Like you, I figure it's got to be here somewhere...

Eeeeew. My parents made us eat some of that and I hated it. Never again. You can have my share.

Trust me... if you ever looked up a recipe for hot dogs, sausage, or twinkies, you wouldn't worry about scrapple.

Scrapple is basically pork, cornmeal, and water. If you can't handle it, PLEASE feel free to pass it on to me.

Have you ever had Polenta or Grits?(same thing)

Have you ever eaten sausage?

Put the two together. That's scrapple.

Scrapple is an old tradition. During the fall/winter pig slaughter season, the remaining pig meat that isn't butchered off is boiled. Then you add corn meal to the water and pig meat. Its basically pork soup to which you add corn meal until it becomes like polenta.

Have you ever made chicken soup by boiling a chicken? Imagine adding cornmeal to chicken soup to make it thick. You've basically made "chicken scrapple."

Chill out, folks. You're in danger of showing your elitist roots.

Grits give me heartburn but I love cheese grits. I've eaten liver, tongue, sweetbreads and lamb kidneys. I just don't like scrapple. Ik.

I get me scrapple for Penhorn's Meat Market, Marion Texas, behind the glass display with the rest of the meat that's on display. It's located 30 min East of San Antonio.

My girlfriend's grandmother brings it back with her from the northeast. I've never heard of it until I tried it, and love it. I only get it from her when she makes her trips up there.
