God made my world... Heath Manning made my neighborhood. Until this day… for 48 years, my family has lived next door to the man… first, in Lake Katharine and later in Wildewood. His son Dibble is like a brother and I love the rest of his family like my own, and I'm blessed that they love me, as well! Heath Manning was simply an amazing man, and like so many individual from his generation… he broke the mold. He lived the kind of life you see played out only in the movies. As a very young man, he and Donnie Boyd trekked off to Africa on safari. Remember the old Tarzan movies… they really did that stuff. How many people do you know who have won world champion polo awards and honored by Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth!

He helped me in my career in ways he didn’t even know. I enjoyed hunting and fishing on his land… riding his horses and going to his polo games… shopping in his malls… swimming and skiing on his lakes,,, etc., but I never really got to know him. Not many people did. Heath Manning quietly created the landscape around himself fully intending that we all would come along for the ride. He was truly larger than life, and lived life to the very fullest!

God works in mysterious ways… my father also died at age 80, and he died on the same day two years ago.

Happy Memorial Day!
