Basically, I thought I was getting a good deal on a used Pathfinder, because it was (barely) within my limited budget price range ($4000) as I am a student now. I did the research on Auto Trader and found a 98 Pathfinder at Giant Autos, and corresponded with one of the dealers there, Zak. My brother lives near Syracuse, so I had him go test drive the vehicle before I wasted my time and my dad's time to drive 7 hours up to see this car. My brother said as far as he could tell, the car drove smoothly. I went up, performed a visual inspection (New York state law requires an inspection under the duty of care a layman would show, NOT an expert or mechanic) obviously I did not have a hydraulic jack to inspect the inner portions of the frame, and expected fair and full disclosure at the time of the sale by the dealer. In retrospect I should have demanded an independent third-party inspection. I made the mistake of trusting these shady characters. The first thing I should note is that the vehicle had been advertised at 145,000 miles on the odometer, and when I purchased the vehicle it had 153,000 on and that even though the model trim was listed on Autotrader as an LE, it was in fact an SE with several optional features added on. These were, in my opinion at the time, forgivable mistakes. The car was placed on a temporary New York state registration until the end of February. I brought it back to school in State College and then recently brought it back to Johnstown to have my mechanic go over it and alert me to any trouble spots before I had it inspected for PA. At the time of the sale, the guy at Giant Auto assured me that it would have passed NY State Inspection but that he did not have it inspected because I was an out of state purchaser and I would have to have it inspected in PA. Well turns out I should have demanded that as well, because aside from needing a new alternator, ball joints in the front, rear shocks, rear tires, rear control arms and bushings (all of which I would have understood due to the car's age) it also has a hole which had been rusted through the cross-frame in the back. My mechanic's exact words were, "this car should have never been sold like this." So I called the guys at Giant Auto and they gave me a very flat response that "this was an as-is sale" and further promulgated the (in my opinion disingenuous) argument that since I had the car for 30 days, the rust through could have just developed and he would not be willing to do anything whatsoever to remedy the problem. He then, almost laughably, tried to insist that he still believed it would have passed New York state inspection at the time of the sale and that this problem could have deteriorated mostly within the roughly 35 days I owned the vehicle. I can provide pictures to anyone who wants them that make it obvious that this is progressive rust that a reasonable dealer should have disclosed. If you are from out of NY state, stay far away from Giant Auto.

well where to start....first they cob job EVERY car!!! the car we bought within the frist week of owning it, it need at least 3 things fixed when we brought it back they gave us attitude about it. then after 2 weeks of owning it we had to return back there for more repairs (go figure). When we finally got the car back of course our 30 days was up now and what do you think happened next... Yup you guessed it more stuff had to be fixed and not only that some of the stuff that needed to be fixed "they had already fixed" (cob jobbed). they never fixed the paint job that was agreed upon when we bought the car. unfortantly we still have the car and the only reason is cause we thought we were getting such a great deal well we owe more on the car then whats its worth. we have had the car for a little over a year now and have spent well over $4000 dollars not including the tranmission we had to replace (around 7 months of owning it). oh yeah the warrenties that they charged us $2000 for is WORTHLESS literally!! STAY FAR AWAY from giant! you've heard of rent a wreck well this place is buy a wreck. also their back yard mechanics are worthless they dont even know how to really work on cars just cob job.

That warranty that they sell is complete crap. And they may tell you that the bank won't loan you the money unless you buy the warranty, that way the bank is "protected"... how the hell they figure that is beyond me. the type of business practice that these guys use should be illegal if they aren't already. I would NEVER recommend anybody buy a car from these people. and just don't talk to the owner.. EVER.. it's fact that you get like 17% more evil just by looking at him ;P Seriously though, this place sucks, and so does that guy Mark, if he died I would be thankful.

i would just like to say all you people posting these statements are all idiots. Keep in mind you are buying a used vehicle and that its not gonna be perfect. When buying a car you have a lot of paper work to sign and if you do so before the car has been checked over, then its on you.

i am looking for a car also and i will stay away from them. I think yaw for telling me this. I hate when dealers no the car is a lemon and pray that it last over the thirty days so that they do not have to give the money back. People do not have money to be waisting. i also thought every time you bring the car back to the shop it starts off another thirty days. I would have faught that. I will get my money back some how some way.

Try Judy's Auto Sales on the corner of Wolf and Grant Blvd I bought a 2000 Honda CRV in 2005 they fixed everything I asked them to in the first 30 days(struts and u joints)without a problem or attitude.I still have the car now with 195000 miles on it.I definitely would buy another car from them when I'm ready which will be pretty soon.

Folks Giant Auto buys their shit cars at the auction like most dealers. Only problem is they are left with the leftovers that most reputable big dealers wont touch. High mileage junk. They most likely buy their cars for 750 dollars to about 1500 tops. And sell them for 5 to 10 times then what they paid. And then if ur stupid enough to buy their shit they'll suck you into a warranty.everyone in the industry KNOWS theset warranties mean nothing.....and will never cover anything in reality ....tires,shocks,brakes,altern ators, bearings,cc joints, power steering, water pumps, battery, exhaust systems etc etc are not covered. The stuff that will eventually break down. DO NOT PAY FOR A WARRANTY. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY DON'T BY JUNK....from dealers like Giant Rip Off Auto Sales.
