Another poor article that makes it hard to form any opinion. If this was the first appearance for the accused then not having all of the reports hardly matters. If this was an evidence (Omnibus) hearing then there is no reason why all of the evidence held by the prosecutor had not been released. It's a bit hard to challenge stuff when you don't know what it is and once admitted the deed is done. Having a cell phone go off in courtrooms while distracting is hardly cause to deny a defendant the right to a lawyer. Makes me wonder about Blue Earth County and it's justice system.

Wow. Good lord I hope I am never involved in the U.S. "Justice" system. Isn't it nice the lawyers play games while a man's life hangs in the balance?

Who can we trust? The cops? The prosecutors? The judges? Meanwhile, the taxpayers foot the bill for all of this foolishness.

I can't make out heads or tails from that article. Had to re-read it a couple of times to figure out who was who....

The article explained who all the people were and there names, what's so hard to understand? Sounds like the defendant's attorney is trying to put on a show to get his client off because he has no defense. People should watch the tv show where people get arrested in foreign countries and see how their judicial systems work, makes ours look pretty good !

I would have loved to have been there. Attorneys are so corrupt in the first place, hiding documents, losing documents, etc., etc.

Considering according to the article the defense attorney was unable to argue his motion because evidence was not turned over it sounds like this was an an evidence (Omnibus) hearing.

In my opinion IF this was an omnibus hearing AND the prosecution still has not handed over the requested evidence then the requested evidence should be thrown out. Why should the defendant (or the state if this is a public defender) incur legal fees for this hearing when the prosecution dropped the ball.

With the prosecution not turning over all the evidence the prosecutor just wasted the judge's time, and the defenses time and money (state money if the defendant is using the public defender)

Anyone else ever see Judd Nelson in "From the Hip"? Just how well do these two lawyers really know each other?

What I got out of the article is that this is a case where a defense attorney and the prosecutor have bad blood between them and NEITHER of them were being particularly cooperative.

And the judge basically told them to grow up and behave like the professionals they are suppose to be and that it wasn't the defendant's fault that they didn't like each other.

You sure have an interesting interpretation. Sounds like the prosecutor, if legally obliged to provide evidence to the defense's counsel, is withholding it. As mentioned already, the article does not state if it was an evidenciary hearing, so stop playing judge via media, Mr. Cop from Morris.

Playing "race to the bottom" with other countries doesn't right wrongs with our system.
We're seeing how the cops are the first to defend the corrupt puppet regimes of the world. And here you are! Right on time!

Well, so far, in my opinion Mr. Rovney, the prosecuting attorney has done an exemplary job for the county. He's a smart guy and I'm confident that if he was "part of the problem" he'll figure out how to do his job in accordance with the legal requirements. Sounds like the circumstances may have been out of his control for the moment.

Did anyone happen to hear the courtroom audio? Were those people shouting out indecipherable comments while Mr. Rovney addressed the judge on the defendant's home team?

If so, shouldn't they have also been asked to be quiet or leave the courtroom?
