if this actually happened....manheim residents ought to be ashamed of themselves.....in this day and age......and if it did happen....all local bands should boycott any future parades....until this is rectified...

IF it's the assertion of this "mayor" that an alien invader from Kansas was solely responsible for the assault of the YCSD that occurred on Oct. 6th then we need to allow the police and the HRC to investigate this incident, the eyewitnesses from the YCSD band and other bands are saying that this was not a single rogue parade watcher but that multiple assailants were throwing rocks and yelling racially insulting slurs at the band. This is only a 1 mile parade route, this did not happen without sidewalks full of witnesses who could have intervened to stop this incident. Perhaps all of those onlookers were from Kansas too?

Maybe Manheim's mayor should adopt the Birmingham Pledge?

The Birmingham Pledge

I believe that every person has worth as an individual.

I believe that every person is entitled to dignity and respect, regardless of race or color.

I believe that every thought and every act of racial prejudice is harmful; if it is my thought or act, then it is harmful to me as well as to others.

Therefore, from this day forward I will strive daily to eliminate racial prejudice from my thoughts and actions.

I will discourage racial prejudice by others at every opportunity.

I will treat all people with dignity and respect; and I will strive daily to honor this pledge, knowing that the world will be a better place because of my effort.

"Manheim" did not do this. Why jump on the whole town and its residents? Why should residents who are completely innocent be ashamed? If my neighbor beats his wife, do I need to be ashamed because I live next door? Should everyone in York City be ashamed for the kids murdered the law student?

The parade was carried on the local cable channel, what are the odds that this assault was video taped?
All this does is re-enforce the pre-existing stereotypes of people from Alabama.

Getting involved in domestic disturbances is a good way of ending up hurt or dead.

It's called "growing a set" and doing the right thing. If you can't do that, atleast call it in, you don't have to leave your name.

The area of Manheim Township does house several racist/prejudiced individuals. And yes, if your community cultivates such behavior, then all of you should be ashamed. As for all of York being ashamed of the killing of a law student, yes, they should be.

"But I think we're getting judged without a jury, and I think that's not fair."For all we know, the person (who did this) was from Kansas. To give Manheim Borough a black eye or the farm show a black eye for such an incident is half-cocked."

I AGREE with the mayor of manheim! It's not fair to judge an entire community based on the actions of a few. HOWEVER, this works both ways........don't judge ALL city residents as evil because of the actions of criminals. AND please try to remember that alot of the "city" people are actually from N.York, Baltimore, Pittsburg, ect coming here to do their drug trades because their is too much competition in their own areas.

But i must confess that I don't understand how no one saw anything! People constantly complain on here that no one in the city will help the police do their job by "snitching." Just goes to show that it happens everywhere too!
