I saw this Request for Proposal document on the Village of Manhattan website: http://www.villageofmanhattan.org/vertical/Si... {C299AB89-4140-469A-B02A-149D6 83060CF}/uploads/{1B19534C-071 0-4329-B7E1-ECADAAA8B5AD}.PDF

and wondered if anyone had any further info?

Looks like the village is developing a concept plan for the land directly west of the Metra Station.

I was surprised to read the plan called for a Sweedler Rd extension to Rt. 52. Wouldn't that go right through the park?

Isn't that where Borgo wants to build the village hall and other governmental buildings? I can't open your link.

Oops, maybe the link was too long. If you go to, villageofmanhattan.org , there is a link to the proposal right on the front page, just below the picture of the Village Hall and Police Department.

You are right. It is a study for a government campus that might have a Village Hall and others.

The extension of Sweedler to tie with Gustafson would go along the south side of Station 1, and through right field of Blatti Field. It is only a study at this point, but has been looked at for a few years. If you look at it from something like Google Earth or Google Maps, it makes sense. It's one of those things I would not like to see, but it is common sense

Didn't Borgo put all this stuff on hold promising not to spend money on it until the economy got better???? Conveniently right before the election??? Another Borgo Lie???

Thanks for the info.

I thought it was interesting the document mentioned: "The Village of Manhattan project will create a plan for transit oriented development
(TOD) adjacent to the existing Metra station. This TOD would consist of approximately 100 acres and provide a variety of residential, commercial, and civic uses which would directly benefit from the existing Metral Rail line which serves communities from Manhattan to Chicago"

I wonder how many people take the metra from leighlinbridge. Seems like the Metra Station would be within walking distance for a lot of Manhattan.

I think there is potential for Manhattan to benefit from people taking the Metra from Chicago to visit Midewin. The Wauponsee Trail takes people straight from the station to Midewin.

While searching for photos of Midewin on flickr, I found some really great Manhattan and Midewin pictures taken by a person who had taken the metra to Joliet, and then biked to Midewin (I don't think there was weekend service to Manhattan at that point).

Here's the flickr link, if you're interested: http://www.flickr.com/photos/reallyboring/set...

I predict all hell will break loose if something happens to that ball diamond.

I wish I knew why borgo wants to turn us into New Lenox with this 'complex.' It sounds like a big waste of money to me.

Will County, its an interesting concept if you can afford it. Manhattan cannot afford to have Borgo put us into deep, deep debt so he can build his "dream" in four years so he can assure the plaque in it has his name on it. Why do you think he is running with this ball so soon after the election? He had put it on hold only months before so it would not be an election issue.

This was actually in place and planned well over a year ago. The Doyle camp tried to use it but it didn't have traction because of how they presented it. the 17 million Taj Mahal they were speaking about, this is it. Every taxing body has signed off on and are in agreement to combine the capital needed to build it. We recieved a grant to plan and bring it to fruition. It won't put us in debt but I sure don't think it is needed.

I don't know too much about the Village politics involved, my parents live south of the village in Manhattan township.

I hate to see more land get covered up, if it's not needed, but I guess it's always a point of debate as to whether something is needed.

I heard about the grant but that is only for the planning of it. Not for brick and mortor or engineering. I just find it interesting that before the election, all this was supposedly put on the back burner indefinately until the economy gets better. A month after the election..spend, spend, spend.

Just out of curiosity, who owns that land?

I was on the original committee to design the new Village Hall and we were picking contractors for management and design at that time. This site and campus was the concept over TWO years ago.

The grant was just for the plan. No building or land.

I can't speculate what "he", they, them, or those guys are going to do. When I was involved, the economy was good and the Village had money set aside in the budget for the planning.

why would anyone want to build public safety buildings near a tank farm? time to look at this poor planning again before it is too late.

Well one thing that does make sense to me is combining resources. All of these agencies have talked about the need to build a new facility so by combining resources they should be able to actually save money in the process and will have a better chance at any funding to get this done. On the other hand the library failed miserably at their attempt so the public has spoken on how they feel about it.

ok, so the road is going through Blatti field?
Isn't that the only field we have in town? So now we will have a campus style like New Lenox with a Brand new Village Hall. Does the library have money to build their building? Does the park have money to give up half of their park and only baseball diamond?? Does the Firedepartment want to move buildings too? Where is that money coming from. Have I forgot anyone?

Most people in town are complaining about property taxes now what is this going to cost us??
Wake up people the village cut out mosquito sprayings from this years budget because they don't havethe money yet we have the money to do this?????? And all organizations signed on and plan on spending YOUR tax dollars how????
This sounds like Illinois politics "Oh we overspent so the hard working people of Illinois have a responsibility to pay higher income tax to get us out of this mess."--Great idea stop getting us into messes. Did we ever get all the money from the developers to pay for the radium removal plant yet?? I heard they are not paying us as promised--guess who flips the bill if they don't the residents through their property taxes.
YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU!!!!!!!!!

OK MJYP tell me how this plan is going to save us all and make manhattan a better place????

ps. How many new homes have gone up in the last 12 months.(tap on fees)

There's already some major dissenion going on about the road going through the Blatti field. That is a HUGE source of income into the Park Districts coiffers this time of year. They've already made some scarifices of funds with Borgo's "stimulus plan," & now he wants to decimate the only diamond in town. I guarantee that will not sit well with a great deal of residents, especially the lifelongers who know the history of that field & have been enjoying it's use since it's inception. Word is spreading throughout the town & I wouldn't be surprised that the village hall & park board meetings will start seeing an increase in attendance.

Thanks to a lousy 153 votes, we're getting screwed. If I wanted to live in New Lenox, I would have moved there.
