What experiences have people had with McDonnell Development's White Feather? We are thinking about purchasing in the neighborhood and would love to hear some feedback to help us make our minds up.

The only thing I recall hearing is there was some sort of problem with placement of mail boxes! Manhattan also was offering a $5000 rebate to new home buyers!

McDonnell I here builds good quality homes. White Feather is next to the Round Barn Farm and Museum with baseball and football fields in the works down the road. It would be a great place to raise a family within walking distance of all those activities.

The mailbox issue wasn't the developer/builder's fault.

That was the fault of residents who tried to have the mailbox wherever they wanted it to be before checking with the post office. Any bad press about that issue should be directed to the homeowners who made a big deal about it, not the builder.

Mailbox placement is a homeowner's responsibility. Homeowners should consult with the PO before placing a permanent structure.

Also, I just bought in the Stonegate community. It is much nicer than Whitefeather. The Builder is great.

Did they say how sales are going in Stonegate? Since they built the models I haven't seen or heard of any activity out there. The models did seem to be built pretty well from what I saw.

Uncleslade, I didn't know any homes sold in Stonegate since it was starting $30K more than Whitefeather with $180 a month SSA. Good luck though!

I live in White Feather and have had a very good experience with McDonnell. This was our first time building, so I expected problems but things went very smoothly. Any problems we have had (all relatively minor) have been handled well.
I don't know about Stonegate except that they have an SSA. One thing I was sure to avoid when we were looking for a home was to avoid any SSA'S.

I am looking into buying a new home in White Feather. Would some of the families who already live in the subdivision mind sharing with me how they feel about raising kids there? How do you like the schools, the park district, the comminity which you live? Are your neighboors kid friendly?
Also, do you feel you have a well built home? Specifically, do you like the windows, are the homes well insulated and stucturally sound? Thanks for any feedback.....

Aren't you one of the same idiots that bashed the RBF and the parks plan for it. You're still a moron.

As with anything, you get what you pay for. McDonnell is a good builder with a good reputation. Far better than other develpoers in the area. When problems arise, they address them, they don't sweep them away.

As to the windows and insulation, you will definitely want to upgrade to the blown insulation and high E glass in the windows. The standards, as with any builder, are just not a good.

The schools are great. Park district is not, but will get better with a recently elected new board.

The neighborhood is fantastic. We have a dozen kids playing outside whenever it's nice out. Friendly neighbors, pretty good kids. Most of the kids are 13 yrs old and under, with a large groupd of 7,8,9 year olds. Many with newborns too. Great community to live in. Safe.

I live in White Feather and love it. McDonnell is a great builder, there has been some issues with the windows but I beleive they are now using a different company. Every problem I have had they have fixed with no problems. All of the neighbors are friendly. Tons of kids my only complaint is that we will not have a park in our subdivision but the park district is going to build one by the round barn.

We have been in the subdivision for a little over two years now and I think it's terrific. It's a friendly area and McDonnell builds a terrific house. You wouldn't go wrong with a McDonnell home believe me.

I didn't think White Feather was SSA. Sure he's not pulling your leg? or maybe he'll "eat" them because there are none.
