This really needs to stop. We are being taxed out of our homes. Please go to the village board meeting on Tuesday, April 6th, at 6pm. Please let the board know that enough is enough.

The village board meeting and the budget meeting will start at 6pm on Tuesday, April 6th, at Manhattan Junior High (probably in the library). I hope we can pack the room and have as many people as possible voice their concerns about the proposed tax increases. There is a multi-million dollar "rainy day fund" that we should use in addition to cutting waste out of the budget.

Your right! Cuts need to be made to all the upper management to decrease the gap! That village administrator should make 1/2 of what she is making! If she doesn't like it, go somewhere else. If she is as good as Borgo says, I am sure she can easily find a job. Let some other foolish town pay her an outrageous salary. All she does is eat out on our tax dollar and plant flowers! She should be the first to go in this economy! I am sick of this!

How can they legally tax our utility bills? People are struggling enough as it is right now. I don't forsee any referendums passing in the future.

Let me tell you
How it will be.
There's one for you,
Nineteen for me,
'Cause I'm the taxman.
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
Should five percent
Appear too small,
Be thankful I don't
Take it all.
'Cause I'm the taxman.
Yeah, I'm the taxman.
If you drive a car,
I'll tax the street.
If you drive to city,
I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold,
I'll tax the heat.
If you take a walk,
I'll tax your feet.

It's called home rule, and in order to have home rule, it has to be voted in. and that was voted in awhile back. They can legally put a surcharge on all utilities, and many other commodities that we buy. I think it's a great idea to go to the meeting, but just to let you know, they don't need the citizens approval to do this. On the other hand it's political suicide for the trustees. and the Mayor.

They cannot add a "Surcharge" for a service they do not provide. They provide the water so that is thiers to do whatever. Why are they not using the Enbridge 7.5 mil. It was for a rainy day. It's been raining for 2 years. So how do we fight back. Get a movement going to not use any Manahattan services or businesses for a week. No gas, no berkots, no resturants, nothing. There are plenty of places to go outside of town. I think it is time that residents put aside thier feelings and let every politician know that they are done. Thier egos have governed us enough. This is just another easy way out for them. No creative thinking, no pay cuts to salaries, typical cook county way of thinking. Pass it along to taxpayers. Manhattan is too small for that way of thinking but smart enough to know when a village board is hosing us. If I am absorbing more taxes, then I expect my overpriced administrator to cut my damn lawn or at the very least drive through town to see everything she destroyed.

I completely agree that we must all fight back. If we do not, they will just continue to take their big pay outs and stick it to everyone........ If we put up with it in this economy, and she continues to make that much money, we are fools and she really is as good as Borgo says!
