Hello my friends. Some of you may know me some may not. My Name is Donald R. Hunt. Some know me as Don Hunt, or Don Jr. I have live in Manhattan for the past 18 years, for ten of those years I have been on the Manhattan Fire Department where I am also an EMT and a Cause and Origin investigator. I am also a member of IBEW Local 176. Now I would like to announce I am also running for Mayor. I love this town, and want to to more then complain about it and where it is going online. I have a Facebook page set up, and am working on updating shortly. It can be found here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Donald-R-Hunt-f... I will answer an questions I can, and hope over the next few months to earn your votes.

Thank you.

Thanks for sharing this. It is nice to see an familiar name running for mayor. Please put some info on your face book page of what future plans you have for the village.

Honestly , you may want to loose the reference to the union , it's not looked at as a good thing of late.
So what are your ideas for town? Any thoughts of bringing in jobs here? Or are we going to stay a business free town like we are? We need industrial zoning on land, and we need some incentives to be here.
I bought in New Lenox because no industrial land was available.
What are your thoughts of the three young men whom broke into homes , and the DA dropping two if them down to juvi court? Isn't one of there dads also the head of a union? Does your union affiliation mean you will back his request?
What re your thoughts on the library?

You may feel that the union reference isn't a positive but you don't speak for everyone. I highly doubt the union reach is in the courthouse. Considering they are juveniles and first time offenders I imagine that would be why the DA agreed to send them to juvi.

What are your thoughts on the lack of salt that is used in the winter time? Manhattan has some very slick streets. I almost wrecked my prius twice last year because of slick streets.

Oh and yeah, I wouldn't keep mentioning the Union thing. The Union/Democrat history of corruption isn't something you want to associate yourself with if you are running for mayor.

They are not first time offenders, and 17 is adult for home invasion. And while I strongly disagree with you , at least you responded how you felt. Borgo would have given a long speech stating nothing.

I think we need to change the names of the subdivisions to Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. It will go along with "Central Park" and "Time Square".

Maybe dig a mote around Leighlinbridge and rename it Statan Island.

I would like to see a mayoral debate or a town hall type meeting. Can you put on together Mr. Hunt? It would be nice if the citizens could come out and meet you and the candidates and ask intelligent questions. That won't happen on Topix and handing out brochures just don't cut it.

Nope. Never heard of him until I saw his post. That is why I suggested a debate or town hall meeting.

I think the important thing here is what is Don going to do for Manhattan? Will he re-assess the town administrator (who makes an extreme amount of money to do what?)? Will he balance the budget so that money goes where it should?

What we don't need to know is how he feels about the library, criminals, etc in town. Those are his own opinions and should not matter in how the town is run. He can make sure the police are doing their job (which they did by actually catching the thieves), make sure the other departments are doing their jobs, and make sure that the businesses we do have are being taken care of by the community.

I don't know Don well, but what I do know is that he tends to be a quiet guy who thinks about his actions before doing them. He is fair and would do a much better job than our current mayor is doing. Give him a chance instead of jumping down his throat with all your opinions while hiding behind your computer screen. You are so quick to judge anyone and everything in this town. If you hate everything about where you live, then leave. Move out and let the town be a better place without your negativity.

Hello all Thank you for the positive comments. I will answer what I can.

Reagan: I would love a town debate before Elections. I also go for walks most nights and am willing to walk and talk to anyone willing to walk with me. I will not be closed off to the people I wish to represent.

Tax Payer: That is something that needs to be addressed. I have a hard time believing we can spend thousands on re mulching Smith Road, and all the flower beds in town, but can't salt the roads so people don't wreck their cars.

Don For Mayer: thank you for the kind words.

TMI: I am a Union Member I wouldn't hide that anymore then I would hide the fact I am also a Fireman. It is who I am, and if I wasn't injured I would still doing both.

Thank you all again.

I wasn't asking you to hide it, just recommending you not use it as a "selling feature". IMO it will help you, that's all. I have nothing against private unions, I just know Unions are a "hit" topic right now.

You won't find anyone willing to so a debate, we have inquired about them many times, and have always been told, the board does not allow them.

And tax payer is joking with you, he/she has a salt fetish. Roads are normally fine, exempt the first freezing rain of the year. The DPW does a good job.

It was a legitimate question. I was not joking, and if the roads were properly salted, I would not be bringing it up. In the 10 years I have lived in this town the Manhattan roads are horrible in winter, and as soon as you get out of town they are fine.

Sorry if you find that a joking matter. You must not drive.

Plus he has a problem with someone belonging to a union
