The animal shelter killed several healthy, adoptable dogs this morning. They weren't even overcrowded. That's NOT what I pay my tax dollars to do - have the county kill animals. Call the county mayor and city mayor and tell them what you think about it.

This is so sad for the dogs that lost thier llfe today ! wasnt over crowded ! Rescues were there before 7 and doors were locked ! This was nothing but a mean act of coffee co ACO . now there are empty runs with nothing in there?? where are the officals in our co. and yes why did they allow this to happen? it is time for them too give the tax payors answers? who is in charge here the people of the co and city or do. Since 09/29 to 12/15 41 dogs have died with 4 missing ! Never for being full just plan blood bath going on ! please stand up for what is right ! Change must happen at the shelter .

Not sure how many died today the dogs were barking howling and some wouldnt come out ! why because they knew dogs were being killed ! people were standing out crying wanting to save a life but didnt happen !! could they have been given a few extra days !! You better believe it ! Please contact official and ask the the same question? Tax payer have a right to know that answer. Many call were made but it did go to voicemail ? They didnt want ti give answer because they know what is going on.

What happened today is government at its worst. Please notify the media, have a protest, do anything you can do to bring attention to the fact that the dogs were needlessly killed. The same thing happened in Lewisburg last July.

The other question I have people were told not to believe everything they hear? dogs are dead empty runs? Did any officals leave their warm office and go to the shelter too see what the people of coffee co were calling in about? or would you be told cant believe everthing ! facts are the truth ! no glass house here . make a trip its worth their sweet life

Aside from what happened today, they are not very helpful when you're trying to adopt if there is even anyone there. They act like you're interrupting their day by even asking questions. I asked them about a certain dog and told them what pen she was in and was told they didn't have that kind of dog, when I asked if I could go in and get her they told me I wasn't aloud. I then asked if one of the four sitting in their warm office could get her they still didn't know what dog I was talking about. I went outside at that point pissed off and waited about 15 minutes for someone from a rescue to meet me there. No one ever came out of the office to try to help me. She went in and asked could she go get the dog and she was also told she wasn't aloud back there. She handed one of the guys the leash and told him to please go get the dog for us. He went and got her. He checked to see if she could leave and I adopted this dog on that day. If she had been at the pound long enough to be cleared for adoption why didn't he know what dog I was talking about? Who was feeding her while she was there? Taxpayers are paying these guys to do what? If you don't like your job find another one.

I have heard of several people calling and waiting for someone to show up to adopt several dogs but couldn't because no one was available. When you ask about the background or if the dogs were picked up as strays nobody knows anything. Several years ago there were two wonderful guys that worked there and you never would have been treated the way these guys treat you.

Several people would have adopted dogs ! doors locked down. They new dogs were being pulled for rescue which free up runs that were empty now. So there was no reason for killing those dogs ! They did it beacause they could. Maybe a few should consider a career change? They Do Not have the dogs best interest !!! It was 28 degrees yesterday when one was washing runs dogs getting wet and the response that was given to a lady was they are use to it ?? really !! maybe we should put on a pair of with officals and try it for a few days and see if we get use to it ! I will try for the welfare of the animals!!

I wasn't even talking about yesterday. I'm talking about in the last month. Someone went right before Christmas and they had closed at 11am and they couldn't adopt. I wish the place was videotaped so we know exactly how many hours a day there is actually someone there. I know all dogs can't be saved and some of them need to be euthanized but what's going on is just insane.

Yes, I know from a person that works rescuing dogs there, how that animal control does nothing to advertise the dogs to the public. They don't put the dogs on petfinder or on the internet. They don't network the dogs with rescues. All they do is catch the dogs and store them there until they kill them. It is not a shelter but a jail for dogs.... Precious, innocent, pets....trusting the animal control workers to take care of them and they kill at will. Rescues pull dogs out every week, even on Friday pulled 4 dogs so that they had 4 empty runs yet the county side of animal control chose to kill anyway. WHY?? I am also a Coffee County tax payer and will be watching what mayor Lonnie Norman does to rectify this situation. He can either do what the people want, which is to allow volunteers in to help get the dogs adopted and elimanate the needless killing, or he can do nothing and watch the people not vote him in for a second term..... "WE" are not going away and WE are not going to stay silent!! It's wrong to kill healthy dogs when rescues are feveroushly trying to save their lives.... The dogs have done nothing wrong.... Please do not remain silent and call Lonnie Norman and let him know your feeling about these dogs senseless murders......

I also had a friend adopt a dog there and she said one of the workers, Charlie, drug her little 12 pound puppy out of the back on a looped pole. The puppy was terrified and coward to the ground.... My friend begged him to take the "dog catchers loop" off the puppy and free him but the officer refused. Finally after several pleas he let the puppy free but the pup remained terrified......

Yes, I am very familiar with No Kill Manchester which is a group of local people trying to save the dogs and change pound policies. Several of them live right here in Beech Grove. THat facebook site is the only place where the dogs are being shown. The pound doesn't allow volunteers not with the city or the county but both sides were allowing the No Kill team to take pictures. One of the volunteers was bit by a dog and the dog died a few days later... with green vomit...which is weird in itself (most vets say that is antifreeze poisoning..) since the dog had been in the pound for almost a week. The volunteer asked what the dog died from, and now, "NO ONE" is allowed in the pound to take pictures. The animal control officers will not take pictures and now they won't let anyone else in to take them either. There is a double fence between anyone wanting to take pictures of the dogs.. This is killing dogs, especially the black ones, because they are so hard to photograph anyway.

The person calling the shots in the county is supposed to be Mayor David Pennington but he turns a blind eye to anything that happens at the pound. He formed a committee that is suppose to handle issues ran my Jackie Duncan Commissioner, but Jackie refers you to David and David referes you to Jackie. Bottom line, it is Kevin Brown the Animal Control Director who decides when to kill and who to kill. He could have made the decision on Friday, after to inform rescues ahead of time that he was killing and he didn't. He could have chosen not to kill once the a rescue told him they were pulling 4 dogs and making room....but he still chose to kill 5 dogs.... So now they have 8 empty runs and why??? So Kevin and Charlie don't have to clean the poop once a day......and feed the dogs? Plain laziness........
