Why doesn't the story state what the imagined need for a new station is.

These guys give over and above heroic, diligent and caring service to their community. Their Ambulance crew by far is one of the best in our area. Thank You for all that you do for the people you serve.

They deserve a new building and most especially, new equipment. If not, they will never win FIRST PRIZE at the annual firemans parade!

As a resident of Springettsbury Township I would like to know what is actually wrong with the present fire station and if any necessary repairs or upgrads would be more cost effective than building a new station. Does anyone have any of this information?

Yes...please vote to complete (not begin?!) Kingston Road repairs. They did some stuff last fall, but it's terrible! Putting in the middle lane, which I assume is supposed to be a turn lane (although it's double yellow lines on both sides, so that would really mean you can't drive in there!), just messed everything up and they didn't do a good job of 'erasing' the old lines either. Please finish that work that was started last year!

I do agree that we have a top notch fire dept and ambulance crew, but as tax payers we have to make due with what we have in this economy I suggest the township departments do the same. I want a BMW but my check book says no way, we all have to learn to live within our means, I am tired of being a cash cow for government including our local.

I agree with you. Possibly this is a way of consolidation of other departments with our township. I didn't say that they should have a new station. I do however stand by them being one of the best for volunteer. But I do agree with "just my thoughts' because they are my thoughts also. In this economy a home owner many times doesn't just pick up and purchase a new home because their present home needs repair. They work on the present residence thus saving the money of financing a new mortgage and placing themselves into new debt. Why do we as a society have the need to grab at everything we want with out thinking of what it will cost our needs in the long haul.

According to the story the new building "will better service the members", don't see anything about better serve the taxp[ayers who will have to pay for the land and building.
Sounds like a bunch of kids crying for a new toy.

I believe that the township has already got the money needed to do the building. I recall the emergency services tax going from $10 to $52 per person a year or two ago. Where is all that money going? Maybe to pad the twp manager's pocket!!

Maybe they could borrow the money from Dover Twp, the supervisors there approved a $50,000 kitchen remodel for their live-ins. Now I'm all for fire companies updating things, but I think 50 grand is just unreal as a tax payer. Not to mention that most of these so called live in's don't have jobs like their buy-laws use to say before they changed it to suit themselves. I think I'm gonna sell my house and more into the fire hall and mooch off the taxpayers of Dover Twp too.

Better stay in your METAL GHETTO TRAILER! Besides, what would you do with the $1,143.47 you would receive upon sale of said trailer?

Maybe the citizens should ask just how many volunteers they have in Springettsbury???

Before the merger, there were virtually no active fire or EMS volunteers. Now they rely 100% on the career firefighters and EMT's of YAUFR. If you do some research on the merger, two of the prime objectives were to reduce the number of fire stations and to bring back volunteers. Neither happened and won't happen. As they look to expand to Manchester Township, still no volunteers. Continue to ask "why do they need a new station for the few 4 or 5 career staff that work at that station?"

I agree that they need to tighten their belt and live within their means, just like every other taxpaying citizen.

Just my 2 cents worth...sorry over budget. My one penny's worth.

Hopefully I can correct a few things.

"A motion should be made at the next board meeting" is in my opinion inaccurate. It is my interpretation that the Board of Supervisors expressed its opinion to move forward with preliminary planning for the Fire Station project. I doubt that the process will move forward so quickly that a vote is required at the next meeting.

Also, the new fire station is not merely to serve the members of Springetts Fire Company as stated. The purpose of a new fire stations is to economically and reliably provide fire and ambulance service to the community. This includes providing adequate facilities for volunteers, paid employees and equipment.

Also, in separate discussions at the meeting is should be noted there has been a great deal of action surround Kingston Road, especially in the area between Eastern Blvd and St. Josephs. The item reported above has nothing to do with this. The Kingston Road repairs referenced above concern a stormwater facility repair on Kingston Road east of Edgewood Road.

Will this actually be a Fire Station for Springetts or will there b underlying plans. we shall see. As always the big kahoonas boost the people up with all the plans and then throw in their own agenda. Watch and see if i am not right about another buy and build on Concord across from the prison. The plans to build on the closed tire lot another building from the prison for outmate prisoners will turn into another holding place for INS. Taxes will go up even though they should be reaping money from the Feds for these illegal immigrants keep.

More reckless spending! Spending by the majority of the Springettsbury Twp. Supervisors is out of control! Period!!! Supervisors Schenck, Bishop, and Bowman own the Board and consistently vote to spend huge sums of money. Why? Because Springettsbury has it! Now, but, what will the future bring? They could care less. This is their legacy. Look what we have done. Someone else will have to cleanup their mess!!

Go to WWW.OTBST2013.COM (Operation Take Back Springettsbury Twp.- 2013 to read about many of the serious issues in Springettsbury Township. OTBST-2013 are supporting Kathleen Phan and Bob Yanover for Township Supervisor. They will bring common sense back to the Springettsbury Twp. Board.
