I was born in America. That makes me native to this Country. Therefore I am native American.

Dec_Rose -> Don't leave mad, just leave! Being Native American myself I bequeath your official Indian name to be "Passing Wind". That name seems to fit with all the other wananbee names they pull out of the air or from some Indian name giving website.

Get a life Wanabees!!! Everything we once had you took from us and now you try to steal our heritage/culture when you have absolutely no right to it. I get so sick of those folk claiming that their great-great grandmother was Cherokee. If these same folk's great-great grandmother were Swahili would they want to label themselves as African or African/Americans so fast? And I mean no disrespect to any Africans or African Americans. Just making a point. Be who you truly are.

I still think YDR should do a story on this camp that Marty "Little Crow" Sheeler claims to donate $'s and make it public what they find out.

Your right!American Indians are at least 25% by law,but tell a pure blood that.I agree with the American Indians,if your not 100% than you have no real claim. The heritage that they claim is bogus. What I have seen on the reservations is a broken people. The white man built Casino's on the reservations and gives each member of the tribe a percentage, that many would use to buy alcohol, and drugs or just throw away on ridiculous ventures.American Indians have the opportunity to take back, what is theirs, but they need to band together and use their profit for educating their people.Take a look at the Afro-American, they organized, educated their young, and now they are becoming a dominant culture. The Afro Americans walk together, the American Indian walks alone.

As for natives being full blooded and their not being any left. Well let me tell you something. I am. I have the great tribal card to prove it but i've also grown up with my grandparents, parents and other family and they have taught me daily on what it is to be who we are as a whole. Some teachings weren't taught but just were. I also went to school with other full blooded natives. Dead or not existing...wrong! we do exist and are tired of living our lives as good normal people only to be sold out by others.

"YES it does!! The 100% Indians stopped when the white man came and rapped the indian woman. There are very very very little 100% indians left. Too much interbreeding. Also way back in some tribes when an indian married a white person, that person was welcomed in to the tribe as an indian, so they were indians also."

Yes, lets talk about this also. We welcomed others and still do but they are still what race they are to us. The good ones will claim to be who they came to us as not change their whole race. That's called understanding. I have white friends who have become family to my family but they respect us and who we are. They don't go around calling themselves native american, indian, american indians. They are still who they are.

Thank you for those words of wisdom "Tired of Wasicu".

I to have my card and I to grew up with my great grand parents and grand parents to teach me of the struggles of our native forefathers. And I to am tired of people claiming native american, indian, american indian heritage.

Why don't these people return to their tribal home and learn from their families. These people have only learned from books. Why don't they go back to their tribal homes and support and dance at those pow-wows.
Please answer that for us true natives

All of you people on here bashing others - who makes you the authority on who is who? I am a Native lady and my husband is also card-carrying as are my kids. Other Indians stereotype against our own too. Alot of my husbands family are mixed with other "races" and that does NOT make the kids less Indian. We just don't say "part" Indian or part this or that. You're just Indian. You internet Indians that think you have the authority to say who is the big Indian are full of bs. You are no better than the government that created this form of genocide centuries ago. True, there are tons of these wannabe's and they are totally disrespectful to our culture, but don't bash future generations of real Indian kids just because they don't fit into your "cookie cutter" mold of who YOU think is an Indian. If a person is less than 100 percent Indian and chooses to identify themselves as Indian, then that is their right. We don't tell a half black/half white person that they can't identify as black or as white. It's a funny thing that so many internet Indians tend to bs about bloodlines, yet their favorite powwow dancers (yeah the really popular ones on the powwow circuit) are MIXED BLOOD..YEAH THEIR MAMA IS WHITE..AND SOME OTHER ONES THEIR DADDY IS WHITE. I can drop a few names like Red Elk and Landry, just to name a few. It's all about respect and people just don't understand that. I had a good friend who is white, her husband was full Lakota (yeah black hair, black eyes) and their son had reddish blond hair and blue-ish eyes. So just because he didn't have coal black hair and black eyes that means he wasn't Indian? She was white but even attended sundance's because she did things the correct/respectful way. You people are real ignorant. Also, Indians DO MOVE for jobs, military, etc. and we ARE all across the USA, OK??! Some of us would like our kids to be involved in our culture but cannot find resources or events in our area besides these wanna-be things. Maybe if all you other Indians would put your money where your mouth is and come together with other "real" Indians in the area, then we could organize some real cultural events. And the "real" Indian powwows that are all competition and ALL ABOUT MONEY are getting absolutely ridiculous too. It's all about the almightly dollar and who has the most money to put into the ridiculously elaborate regalia. Here's a tidbit for ya too - the guy that puts on the big ol' Gathering of Nations powwow is BLACK and no one even knows his wife's ethnicity - you can look them up online and see the bs and money-making schemes they are pulling off year after year. The ignorant trash on here that are saying stuff about Indians and alcohol are really sad excuses for human life.

I have a question for you Native Mama. If a person has a grand parent 4 - 5 generations back that was 1/2 native. And let's say they claim that the grandparent never claimed to be Native because they were ashamed. Well does that make them Indian? I don't think so. That bloodline is far gone. These people to not know what it's like to grow up being Native and being ridiculed for your culture. They've never learned from their grandparents, all they know is what they've picked up from these hokey pow-wows. The people of PA have been mislead long enough and it's time it stops.

In some Pow Wow being made an Honorary Indian because of being married to a native American means you may participate.

Try again the term native was used correctly. Ancestry is immaterial to the term native. Your place of birth determines your native origin.

What tribe might you be referring to? Has your significant other's tribal government accepted you into their tribe and given you enrollment? A pow wow nor marriage make you an "Honorary Indian".

I am a Kispokotha Shawnee Native American from western, Penna. I also share heritage with the Seneca and Oneida people. I am reading some really wierd posts here. I meet a lot of wannabees at pow-wows, but they are rather apparent that they are not us, just as soon as they open their mouths and start to impart their "vast knowledge" of things Native American. These people would be laughable, if they weren't just plain aggaravatihg to real Native Americans.

Im not Indian. But just keep that mind and yours or the Indian tradition will vanish. Doesn't matter what pupils blood lines are its always good to keep remembering some traditions. I'm sure even on a reservation they don't do things exactly the way it was before the white man came. So stop being racist. Just try and Carry on some tradition and have an open mind.
