Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign misspelled the word “America” on its new iPhone app, and it’s already paying a price for it.
In the app, the phrase “A Better America” is misspelled “A Better Amercia.” The misspelling was picked up and tweeted widely Tuesday night, soon spawned a hashtag-driven Twitter meme in which people imagined just what Amercia stood for and what kind of policies Romney had planned for Amercia.
...
Here’s a sampling of the reaction:
Will Mitt Romney apologize for Amercia?
Mitt Romney clearly wants Obama to stop apologizing for "Amercia" according to his new iPhone app.

Federal Income Taxes on Middle-Income Families Remain Near Historic Lows

By Chuck Marr

Updated April 2, 2012

Federal taxes on middle-income Americans are near historic lows,[1] according to the latest available data.

That’s true both for federal income taxes and total federal taxes.[2]

Income taxes:

A family of four in the exact middle of the income spectrum will pay only 5.6 percent of its 2011 income in federal income taxes, according to a new analysis by the Urban Institute-Brookings Institution Tax Policy Center.[3]

Average income tax rates for these typical families have been lower during the Bush and Obama Administrations than at any time since the 1950s, as Figure 1 shows.

(As discussed below, 2009 and 2010 were particularly low because of the temporary Making Work Pay Tax Credit.)

Overall federal taxes:

Overall federal taxes — which include income as well as payroll and excise taxes — on middle-income households are near their lowest levels in decades, according to the latest data from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

Rev. Wright:

Barack Obama 'Heard Me for 20 Years'

After years of denying that he heard the radical preaching of Rev. Jeremiah Wright as a member of Trinity United Church of Christ for 20 years, there is new video of the reverend in which he says,

“I’ve been preaching the same way since I was licensed to preach in 1959, ordained in 1967.

Barack was in elementary school when I was ordained.

CBS, ABC, MSNBC and Fox News spent $4,000 each buying 20 years of my sermons so they could hear what Barack Obama heard for 20 years.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“When they debate, Barack will smoke Romney”
- Sidney Barthwell, Romney's classmate at Cranbrook and Obama's at Harvard Law.

----------

Sidney Barthwell just might be the only person on the planet who went to school with both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.

Friendly with both men long before they entered political life, Barthwell has contributed money to both campaigns and speaks highly of both candidates. But when his two former classmates face off later this year in a series of presidential debates, he doesn’t mince words about what he thinks will happen.

“When they debate, Barack will smoke Romney,” Barthwell, a district court magistrate in Michigan who attended boarding school with Romney and Harvard Law School with Obama, told The Daily.

“Mitt Romney is smart,” he said.“Having said all that, I still think he’s going to get smoked. The best he can do is hopefully come out not looking like a fool. Mitt will find out the hard way as soon as they have their first debate: You don’t debate Obama.”
...
“It’s Harvard Law School, so you’re not surprised if someone ends up doing something impressive. But even there, it was clear he was brilliant,” Barthwell said of Obama.

Within the tradition- steeped, competitive culture of Cranbrook, the prestigious boarding school in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Barthwell said Romney, while clearly smart, was far from a standout.

“Mitt was not particularly popular. He was very, very ordinary. He was an average Cranbrook student,” said Barthwell, 64.

“He was not an athlete, he was not a student leader, he was not a scholar. The thing that separated Mitt there was that his father was the governor of Michigan.”

----------

The wingnut base has been convinced by the rightwing propaganda machine that the brilliant President of the United States is tongue-tied and can't speak without the help of a teleprompter.

They have a mighty big surprise coming when the debates start. LOL!

As I and others have pointed out here previously, Mitt Romney has a STEEP climb to win the 270 electoral votes he needs to become President.

Not only does he have to win FL and OH, he has to win 6 other states that Obama won in 2008. It's a near impossibility.

So it's interesting to see that in the states that Romney desperately needs to win ... Donald Trump is DEEPLY unpopular.

----------

From Public Policy Polling:

During April we've polled Trump in the battleground states of Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Nevada and in all four of those states we've found that at least 59% of voters have an unfavorable opinion of him.

In Nevada Trump's favorability is a -27 spread (32/59), in North Carolina it's a -35 spread (27/62), in Iowa it's a -34 spread (27/61), and in New Hampshire it's a -33 spread (27/60).
...
Trump is completely toxic to independent voters. His favorability with them in Nevada is 35/57, in Iowa it's 29/58, in New Hampshire it's 23/63, and in North Carolina it's 28/61. His recent antics have ingratiated him to a meaningful chunk of the far right Republican base, but he's completely turned off the folks in the center whose votes often determine who comes out on top in Presidential contests.

----------

I'll never understand the Romney calculus that determined that embracing Donald fracking Trump was a smart political move.

Maybe a rightwinger can explain the logic?

Anyone?

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’

No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” he said in a 2003 sermon.

“God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human.

God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”

Yes. We. Can.

Rev. Wright urged to stay silent until after 2012

In the interview, Wright told Ed Klein, author of The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, that he keeps a cardboard box of documents and notes detailing his experiences beginning in March 2008, when the controversy over his sermons began.

"It's a painful box to look at," Wright said.

"Marty had me over to his home for dinner in January [2010]," Wright told Klein.

"He said to me,'Are you keeping notes on what's happened to you in this Obama campaign?' I said,'Yes, sir, I am.' He said,'Don't publish it until after the next election.

They'll think it's sour grapes.

Wait until after 2012.

But Wright's specific allegation that Whitaker, a close friend of the president's, offered money in exchange for Wright's silence has received little scrutiny in the press.

The website BuzzFeed asked Wright, the Obama campaign, and the University of Chicago Hospitals, where Whitaker is a top executive, about the allegation.

All declined to comment.

Supply-side economics is better known to some as "Reaganomics", or the "trickle-down" policy espoused by former U.S. president Ronald Reagan. He popularized the controversial idea that greater tax cuts for investors and entrepreneurs provide incentives to save and invest and produce economic benefits that trickle down into the overall economy.

In other words, if government economic policy focuses on making the rich richer, the benefits will "trickle down" to everyone else. As supply siders are fond of saying, "A rising tide lifts all boats." Since Supply Side economics came to dominate American economic policy during the Reagan administration, the rising economic tide has certainly lifted a lot of yachts, but at the same time it has left most of the row boats stuck in the mud.

The past quarter century of Republican economics has proven that the trickle down theory is just a convenient excuse to justify an economic policy favoring the rich, with the benefits trickling up to make the very wealthy even wealthier.
