You could build million dollar homes in that area .And they would still tear them up and keep them trashed. Its not the houses , it is the class of people that live there. And then you have West St and Salem Ave and Poplar and Belvedere. You will be putting lambs in a pack of wolves.

Can't make chicken salad out of chicken $hit! Better attempt to transform the local inhabitants before rehabing houses.

The only thing that will help that neighborhood would be to burn it down, and ship the inhabitants to a highly secured testing facility. That would accomplish 2 things: make york a better place to live, and peta would be happy to know that animals aren't being tested on.....oh wait no 1 thing sorry york will be a better place to live.

at best this results in another locust st, an island of wasted money and initiative.

the city of york has always been clueless on redevelopment. instead of building out and linking troubled neighborhoods to stable ones, they just throw darts at a map and hope to spark something. never gonna happen.

Why is there always people that have something to say about anything good? There are good people living in that area who are looking forward for change. The Westend Task Force has been hard at work in this area and are making arrests. The Salem Square Neighborhood Association has also been striving for change in that area. York doesn't need the negativity of individuals that always find fault in anything good. If you don't want to be supportive and proactive, move elsewhere!

I just moved here into Salem Square and found my new neighbors the best. Several of my new neighbors came up to me as I opened the rental truck and offered to help me unload. And, they even helped me take the heavy stuff upstairs... which has been a real blessing. It took me almost 3 whole days to load the truck, with hardly any help.... except for the last hour or so. Within 2 hours, we unloaded the truck and I still had time to spare getting it back before the due time. What a blessing my new neighbors have been, then and now. A few of my new neighbors are still helping me anytime I was ready to get something upstairs. I disagree that people of this neighborhood don't care. I have seen my neighbors sweep and wash their stoop and sidewalks. I have seen wonderfully decorated homes this past Christmas season. And, I have been greeted by young and old alike as they pass by. I have not regretted moving here. I love my new neighborhood. Thank you neighbors for making me feel so welcomed here and for making me feel at home here. May God continue to bless you all as you have blessed me.

The reason they wanted to help was to get a look at what they can steal later. These people do nothing without some return in mind. My advice: Get real good locks and a large caliber pistol.
