being in the fire co. all my life, i'm wondering just how long it is going to take for one of our fire fighters to be killed responding to a call, these new pagers have to be one of the worse things they couldve possibly went to.they want to outlaw cell phones while driving but it's now ok to have to be reading where the calls are and where they need to be going while their driving to the station, the person that ok'd these pagers must be the same idiot that ok'd motorcyclist that they dont need to wear helmets. god be with all the firemen driving to calls

wait a minute.....while I agree with most of your statement I have to disagree with your helmet analogy. Motorcyclists have a choice, they can wear if a helmet if they want to.

but i dont have a choice in wearing a seat belt if i get pulled over and dont have it on i'm getting a fine, and no i dont wear one there has been alot of people killed because of seat belts, so i think if they have a choice in helmets, why is there not a choice in seat belts, why do they get to raise taxes on cigs, but yet u dont hear every couple of months them raising taxes on beer, i guess u could go for days! my maain point is still they should ban those damn deadly pagers
still lots of bugs

It's not just them. Earlier today I couldn't contact someone 2 blocks away on the new radios and ended up using a cell phone. We've had members whose pagers either haven't gone off or go off way past when it should. EMS should have their own channel separate from the Fire unless they are on an incident together. You can't even get a transmission out with all the traffic at times. Eric better get on the ball.

What's it going to take York? Somebody or a first responder is going to die because of your f-in system that was brought in!

I hope God watches over the first responders and victims if something were to happen.

Another genious thought by our elected idiots.

you do have a choice with the new pagers, pull over, its better to arrive, then not to get their at all.

If the York County Firefighters Association had the nads and clout of their Baltimore County counterparts 33.90 would have been kept as a simulcast dispatch channel and used for house siren activation. A computer voice could "read" the information on the digital pagers. It is still not too late as the Association holds the lo-band licenses.

By the way Baltimore County switched to 800mhz trunked in the late 1980's and still continues a lo band simulcast to this day.

you are correct, I was there at the time of the switch and some years after.

This radio system is an accident waiting to happen. The county officials are well aware of this, they simply don't want to admit they wasted millions of dollars on a system that doesn't function properly. The sad thing is that the system doesn't function properly for any organization that has purchased it. Had more research been done before the executives at York's 911 center jumped into this project they would have seen how deep the problems with the system were. Unfortunately the upper management is a bunch of nimwits who let some sales man promise them the world and not deliver. Maybe had these people listened when they received warnings about this the problems wouldn't exist. It's really sad when people care so little about the first responders they are affecting because "IF" they could get it to work, it would pad their resume nicely. People's lives are on the line everyday. I hope that everyone bands together to hold these people accountable for this.
