Try it sometime, if you don't drive a piece of junk, you will be amazed how easy bit is. The police hand out the tickets and then go out and do the same thing. As far as driving ability goes, this guy seems to have it. Maybe you don't. Don't try this at home.
Just ask Mr. Conant and his BMW, amirght?
I don't care how skilled the driver or how finely tuned the automobile may be. 102 on public roads isn't safe, there will always be other drivers to contend with. How many times a day does some idiot pull out in front of you on the highway or drift into your lane because they're on a cell phone? You want to drive fast, take your car to Epping.

how fast would the ambulance go in an emergency? And I'm curious as to how fast the officer was going when he escorted the couple to the hospital. Was it like when they escort those big double-wide trailer houses down the highway? Or was there more urgency? lol
Even on a highway, an ambulance wouldn't (shouldn't) be going much more than the speed limit. Sudden speed changes and maneuvering make it difficult for the Attendant to treat the patient. Slow and steady usually works better and difference in arrival time is usually only a few seconds.

And if the child starts to deliver anyway, there is much more room in an ambulance than the front seat of a Buick... And EMT's & Medics are trained for childbirth...

He could have killed so many people INCLUDING his wife and the baby and anybody else on the highway. There is no reason why he should be allowed to speed just because he feels entitled. This is all the more reason to lock him up..a ticket isn't punishment enough!!

Unless you're in the situation, you don't know what it's like. 102 is a little high speed driving, but to say he should have got an ambulance is rediculous. The only thing that you are thinking about is ' I need to get my wife to the hospital.' I think the cop did the right thing by escorting them to the hospital, but I don't agree that he gave them a ticket. You are there to use you judgement, there's letter of the law, and there's judgement call. Bad judgement on your part.

I have to disagree. The officer was right in issueing a ticket! What if every husband with a wife in labor drove 102? Is 102 the limit? I believe that this guy should of recieved a ticket for driving to endanger after 85 miles an hour!

It was pure luck that there wasn't an accident! I wish the couple and their newborn the very best but I would convict if I were on a jury for this case and I would suggest for a driving to endanger charge.

We all understand that he was in a position with a need to speed but 102? If it was 85, a warning would of justified the officers whereabouts for n half hour. If someone was critacally injured then 102 may have made it to a serious pointed warning.

I believe that we must recognize that there was a danger put on the publics safety! If this guy doesn't recieve a ticket then we may see husbands with wives in labor routinely traveling 102.

Tell the cops who blow by you on the highway at 90 plus they might kill a family. They are no different than you or I.

speed limit on route two is between 45 and 55, depending upon where you're located. just so you know, if that cruiser that comes up behind you decides to pull you over.

Unfortunately human bodies are not built to survive the abrupt stop and subsequent bouncing around inside of a disintegrating car slamming into a tree or other object! It would be a very screwed up world if people don't obey traffic laws and speed limits to this extent.

Thank God they are all OK

I'm sorry, but I've SEEN officers close to 100mph on the highways. No lights, no sirens. Then they pull off and are sitting. Granted, it's not the norm, and they MAY have be prestaging because of a radio call that isn't fully qualified, and I DO see the necessity of what they do. I'm not making a blanket condemnation of them, but let's look at ALL the factors before you judge this guy. And before the old tired argument comes up about training and judgement, I've worked on racetracks for a number of years. I think I do know how to judge speed.

First off, if the guy was driving a rattletrap, I'll admit that ANY highway speed is unsafe. And granted, we can assume that most LEO vehicles are well maintained and safe at that speed.

Second, what ARE the circumstances? I read one version of te story that on a NH web site that indicated the child was born SIX MINUTES after arival. That's a pretty close edge.

Third, what were the conditions? Not one story states if the driver was on an empty roadway or in traffic. What were the conditions?

This is not a simple situation here, and prejudging with the prejudicial statement that "they still don't" when refering to officers is not fair.

Oh, another point...

If the guy was driving 102, how fast did the cop go to 'catch up'?

Again, I'm not dissing on the cop, but is it policy to pursue just a 'speeder' at 100+??

Pull him over and write him a ticket! There, problem solved.

They are different. They have driver training that you will never get. They are using their emergency vehicle lane (also known as the passing lane) that driver's are not suppose to use. You will get a ticket if you don't get out of the emergency vehicle lane as they approach you. Also if I need them I want them to get there as quickly as possible.

Hey insider , get your facts straight ! I'm a Marine Vet who served in security forces and i recieved specialiaze driver training..... I'm sure lots of other Veterans can say the same if the ever served on a special duty or billet..... SO THE ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN US , they may wear a uniform , but i can guarantee some of the Vets out there can out drive and or outrun cops and their little police cars.. Also, you say "driver training they will never get" .... Look at the race track in Louden.... You can get training there.... Theirs plenty of places to recieve this type of training... Try Devens . I believe they have a course there.... You can get trained no matter what your profession is... I'm afriad your dead wrong buddy... Bottom line , they are drivers with a little bit more education.... You CAN find the same driver education in many differnt places in and around the state... I don't mean drivers ed at you local high school either !!!

I was referring to the average person who does not seek out a defensive driver training course. I don't think everyone on the highway has been to a driver course. I raced at Louden and I have my racing license. The average soccer mom does not have the same training as a police officer. So you are saying everyone has had the same training ? I see many driver's breaking the law everyday by passing a fire engine or ambulance at an incident. They are the same as a school bus and the same law applies. Emergency workers are being struck in many communities everyday. A driver has to stop and cannot pass an emergency vehicle unless a public safety worker instructs them too. Too many driver's have forgotten the basic laws pertaining to roadways such as the passing lane is actually reserved and is only for use by emergency vehicles.

Hmmmmm? Are you okay? Do you have post traumatic stress? You sound very upset.
