I didn't follow my own advice on this one, but... Air Force or Navy. Those two have the highest level of technical training available, so that if you should get out at some point, you're most likely to have a valuable set of skills you can use to get jobs as a civilian later.

I agree with the other poster, but I went ARMY myself and have no regrets. It really depends on what you're looking for. If you want to spend most of your time in the US, then it's ARMY. If you want to see the world, nothing beats the Navy, although the AIR FORCE comes close. Although the MARINES have a well deserved reputation, it's a rough road to hoe with mostly inferior equipment and abusive drill instructors. Not so much on technical training, but all branches are awesome.

Air Force, if you can handle it, it can be brutal, but worth it...have them train you in being an Air Traffic Controller, if you might be interested in that. You will most likely have to go to Iraq, bullets flying over your head and all, but once your stint is over, you can get a very high paying job for the future!

Not many people can handle, either though. It's worth it!

None of them?...ok guy the military is the best thing anyone can do with there life... They teach you values that someone like you needs to truly learn. They set you up for sucess....And just for your information i don't care how many college degrees you got military is always top priority for job employment..not to mention you can retire after 20 years. the sign on/re-enlistment bonuses. AND THE MONEY THEY PAY FOR YOU TO GO TO COLLEGE! and ima tell you right now guy i am a vet. so don't get on here running your damn mouth about the military. cause all you gonna do is piss alota people of..and to let you know something you piss the wrong people off, you won't be able to hide behind that computer cause every computer has a i.p. address...yea google it dumbass cause i ain't wasting my breath explaining it to you. Maybe you should look into the military yourself. And for the post up there about the marines having abusive drill instructors...DAMN YOU PEOPlE DON'T GET IT DO YOU! THE MILITARY DON'T ABUSE YOU IN ANYWAY BUT THEY DON'T HAND YOU MILK AND COOKIES. THEY SET YOU UP FOR SUCSESS! IF THEY DON'T TRAIN YOU RIGHT THEN GUESS WHAT. YOU DON'T COME HOME FROM THE SANDBOX! SO ANYONE THAT HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE KNOWS WHAT I AM TALKIN ABOUT. THEY TRAIN YOU HARD FOR A REASON. TO MAKE YOU A SOLDIER! AND GODBLESS EVERY ONE OF MY BROTHERS THAT ARE STILL OUT THERE IN COMBAT! AND TO ANSWER THE QUESTION TO THIS TOPIC. I WOULD RECOMEND THE UNITED STATES ACTIVE ARMY. AND IF YOU WANT THE NUMBER TO TRAINED PROFESSIONALS TO GIVE YOU ALL THE INFORMATION YOU WANT I WILL BE GLAD TO GIVE YOU SARGENT FIRST CLASS NOBLE'S PHONE NUMBER. HE IS THE STATION COMMANDER IN RECRUITING FOR THE SURROUNDING AREA.

If you are considering the military in general you need to go to each and every branch to figure out what they are about. It is according to what you want to do! Regardless there will be one available for the career path that you want to take. Me personally I have been in the Air Force for eight years and a prior topic is right about more technical training than the other branches. However, I train, work and have other contact with all of the other branches and we are all on the same page (the mission and our country)! Regardless there is only 1% of the US that is military and the devotion/dedication to it can be demanding. Just like any other thing in life you have to want it in order for you to be happy or achieve it. I love the military and treat and look at it is as my other family(all branches). Good Luck and Best Wishes!

you sound like your wasting a lot of breath for someone who isnt wasting your breath and its that bad attitude that is giving the military a bad name.....were you one of bushs torturers....the militarys job is to protect americans that cant protect themselves and keep their mouth shut while they follow their orders, not insult people who give advice you dont like.....now go polish those boots and act like a real american soldier instead of a brainwashed idiot

hey...The best thing you could every do with your life is join the United States Military. They do set your life on a path to sucess. It don't really matter what branch you join. Once you become a soldier you look at the military with a whole new meaning to every branch, cause it's more than a job. It's a lifestyle, memories you'll never forget, the thing you will take most pride in and have a great sence of self accomplishment, but the most important thing, It's a family. When you put that uniform on you will become part of the greatest family you could ever imagine. Agian i say it don't matter which branch. I was active army but that's not the point. a soldier is a soldier they all fight for the same cause and watch over each other no matter what. The only difference in the cores are, different technical aspects, different rank names, different duties on foreign and domestic soil. which one is right for you...nobody on topix can tell you that. Only you know that. so as stated in an earlier comment do your reasearch see what all of them are about talk to SEVERAL reqruiters. See what the pros an cons are. Make sure everything any reqruiter tells you can be written down for example....army reqruiter tells you man i'll get you airborn school and 45 thous enlistment bonus. Yes both of them are very possible but it don't matter what anyone tells you. What matters is what goes on your Contract. Well look at it this way, if they promise you something that they could give you why can't they do it legal...my point made i think...just make sure you do your reasearch. Work smart not hard. i wish you the best of luck i really hope to see you become a soldier one day and make a life for you and your family. The pay in the military is very good. they pay for your housing.food. free rent and food....and if your married you get paid more and if you have kids you also will recieve more. if you do have kids yes you can have your pay split up to take care of the loved ones while you are away and bct is really not that hard. it seems tough when you get there but like i said you got alotta ppl willing to help you every step of the way. i don't know your age or anything about you but if your having doubts because of age or weight i promise it's all in your mind. In my platoon in basic combat training was a 42 year old man. he had smoked since he was 13 or 14 and was over weight pretty bad.he couldn't run 1 mile in under 25 mins....he just stuck to it and by the final pt test he was running with all the top runners...beat me actually but anyways that don't matter lol...The army doesn't try to hurt you in anyway. Your dental is free and so is medical. The dentists and medical doctors are very well trained so no worry's there. Once you get out of training it's just like going to a job around here. you get up do a lil physical training which won't be a problem. you'll go to breakfast then to your job, which in alota cases are not very demamding at all. after work usually by 3 or 4 your free to do what you want for the rest of the day and night. i do admire your desire to serve the men and wemon of this great nation. Yes some are ungrateful but believe me there are so many more that truly appriciate soldiers. many becasue they wanted to be a soldier but couldn't because of various reasons...so if you do become a soldier take pride in your job and keep your head high. you will be a hero to alota people world wide. God bless

on a side note referring to a previous comment up there....really learn your info and make sure it is accurate before you provide it. sfc. noble isn't the station commander anymore it is sfc. granato. ty.

Airforce if you want to learn skills you can apply to the civillian world. If you've had other jobs, you'll find it VERY easy. Especially if your an actual worker and not a lazy ass.

After retiring military i can tell you this. Go Air Force. But frankly the military is like an island. If you don't bring it with you, you wont find it there. Hard work and determination comes from within, you either have it or you don't military will just teach you to fake it. There are plenty of lazy people in the military, they just don't last as long.

Few things.
The legal age depends on the branch, For instance we had 42 year olds in my Basic Unit.
As people have pointed out, it really depends on what you want to do.
And yes the Military is a very nice choice, it will like me, help you pay for college if you want.
And as a side note to some one up there. While its nice, I would not say "the best thing you could do" I know plenty of F*#K ups from the army, if your a screw up going in , you will most likely be a screw up after you get out.

Now that being said, any branch can be nice, You can learn useful skills in any branch.

O as a side note.
Allot depends on which branch will take you as well.

If you have any felony. Its a no go right now.
If you have any criminal charges, the Marines are out.
If you don't have a high school degree. They are only going to take you in really crappy jobs.(And the Air Force and Navy wont even talk to you)
If you have a GED, you will need 15 hours of college for them to consider it a high school degree.
If you have had medical problems in the past its going to be hard to get into the Navy/Marines.(Well actually impossible at this point, but it will be hard to even get into the Army/Air Force)
