I'm getting these pop up ads that come on my screen from the left side every time I look at Topix. It slows my computer and I have to constantly close them to see all the content on the page. Are you seeing these too? Makes the Topix experience very bad. I don't open Topix as much as I used to because of the pop up ads. How can we get rid of these?

Windows, Linux or Mac? Which browser are you using?

For Windows with Internet Explorer go into Control Panel and open Internet Settings. On the Security tab raise the Internet Zone security setting to High. Close and reopen Internet Explorer for the new setting to take effect.

The drawback is that you won't be able to post comments without changing this setting back to Medium.

Alt+F4 is a Windows keyboard shortcut which closes the current browser window. This is not what the OP wanted.

If you're using the Firefox browser, just get the Adblock Plus add on.

These Adblock and Tracking Protection Lists from Fanboy work well for Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

Also, make sure you have all of the latest Windows updates installed. Using TPLs to block ads is easier than adjusting IE security settings.
