I remember the Alabama Novelty store on the Square down town. A woman named alma ? worked there. Do you remember miss Pearl Samples was across from the now Christian Cardiology ? I had my first perm at Mrs Creechs beauty shop. At that time your hair was rolled on wires attached to a machine, these would get real hot, I remember the smell of burnt hair (my own probably).

I remember Dobson & Keith when it was across from the underground poolroom & Ben Franklin's, that's where my mom bought me my 1st. model car I put together. Remeber Jack Harris's gas station that was across from Colter's. I believe there was a clothing store to the left of Rice's shoe store, maybe the Leader store, had a lot of baby clothes? There was a feed store where Big Dan's Video store was. Dollar General was on the left going up town branch then it moved on the left going up Court House Hill & we can't for get Dr. Becknell's. Also Rose's Rags on bridge street.

What about Manchester Dry Goods!! Got all my school clothes there. Remember getting gas at John Colson's at the Wayside, used to by Joe Cottongim's. I remember Seal produce when it was on the 2-lane coming into town, where the Nursing rlace is now.

For those of us that did not have money to buy new stuff with, how could we ever forget Miss Price's Store-seems like just about everything I wore came from there-she was up on courthouse hill. Mommy went there almost every week--

Remember Dude Stones shoe shop beside Rose's Rags? I remember Mrs. Brumley's green house in east Manchester & Porter-Ely's drug store decorating for Christmas right after Thanksgiving & not in September like Wal-Mart does now. Everbody went to Roger's & White for their Jewerly & watches. Rice Asher's general store had the coldest pop in town.

NOT HENNY PENNY CHILI

This is the recipe I use for hot dog chili...think you'll like it...
IF YOU TRY IT LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE IT.

HOT DOG CHILI
5-7 LBS. GROUND CHUCK CRUMBLED IN HEAVY COOKER
ADD...2-3 CANS TOMATO SAUCE
1 SMALL CAN TOMATO PASTE
1/4-1/2 CUP CHILI POWDER (START SMALL) ADD TO YOUR TASTE
2-3 TABLESPOONS GARLIC POWDER
STIR CONSTANTLY TO MAKE SURE IT IS CRUMBLED WELL

AFTER STARTS TO COOK STIR OCCASIONALLY TO KEEP FROM STICKING TO BOTTOM OF PAN
COOK OVER LOW HEAT FOR 45-60 MINUTES

I USE THE GROUND CHUCK...DON'T HAVE ANY FAT TO SCRAPE OFF TOP.
