Pink Eye Treatment and Medication
Pink eye medication can be a mix of prescribed and over the counter medicines. For bacterial infections, a doctor must prescribe pink eye antibiotic to attack the bacteria. This medication can be delivered in varieties like eye drops or ointments that are applied to the eyes for a few days. Pink eye caused by allergies can be solved with allergy eye drops like Patanol. Patanol is one solution that has been proven to be effective in preventing pink eye caused by allergies with just 2 drops a day. It is safe according to the manufacturer for kids over the age of three. Other medication with antihistamines maybe recommended by a physician which can include anything from liquid to pill state. Another Pink eye medication is Similasan Allergy Eye Relief eye drops. These OTC medications may not be as impressive but provide some relief. Similasan also has a pink eye relief eye drops for viral conjunctivitis. Other eye drop companies also manufacture similar eye drops that alleviate Viral Pink eye. These over the counter medications are all that is required for most cases of viral pink eye as the virus just needs to run its course and pink eye medication is used just for soothing symptoms. For relieving discharge, warm compresses are great for removing the sticky residue as well as the crusty, dried portions around the eyes. For persistent problems it is best to consult your eye care professional.

www.earthclinic.com Click on 'cures' then click on 'P' and find pink eye. The Green Tea bags that some have used sounds like it might be what you are looking for. Good Luck!
Thanks

I just caught pink eye! Yikes! I had a few times when I was 13. When I caught it again, our old fashioned pharmacist told us to nix the doc visit, and to buy a plain old tube of original Neosporin. Careful these days, do NOT buy Neosporin w/ Pain Relief added! Just dab ointment at each corner of eye with CLEAN finger, and shut eye to let it melt under the lid. It's messy, but effective. He also had me use eye wash between applications. So I washed eye w/ eye bath in morning, followed by the Neosporin. I repeated this before bed. Toss your makeup, stop wearing it while healing, and buy all new. Sorry, but it's contaminated now!

Hey,
The regular Neosporin ointment works fantastic for treating pink eye, if you know that its a bacterial-caused problem. I was running a triathalon this weekend and a bug flew into my eye. I had to wipe it away with my snot rag to finish the race, but that almost certainly got bacteria into my eye. Had crusty pink eye by the next morning. But I used neosporin after doing a little research and it worked great--its maybe like 5 hours later now and my eye is fine.

If you look at the Opthalmic Neosporin treatment, it has the same exact ingredients as normal Neosporin but is in eyedrop form rather than the petroleum jelly dissolved normal over-the-counter kind. Since you might get some irritation of you put petroleum jelly in your eye, I would recommend the following:

1. Put a dab of neosporin in a cup
2. Pour a tablespoon's worth of boiling water in the cup
3. Swirl the solution to dissolve it
4. As it is cooling, swirl the liquid around the edges of the cup
5. The petroleum jelly should solidify on the edges of the cup
5. Apply the remaining solution with an eyedropper to your eye. Voila!

And as other people have said, do not use the pain relief version--that will hurt your eyes.

always have a small jar of boric acid in your medicine cabinet. This is a mild anteseptic especially used for the eyes. You can order this at most drug stores at the pharmacy.(prescription pink eye antibiotics will some times even include boric acid in thiere formula. Mix 1 tsp. in one cup of hot water. Soak each eye with this solution 4x aday. Buy over the counter polysporin eye antibiotic and follow the directions . My grandfather always used boric acid this way. That was before antibiotics. This is safe to use on little children. Our grandaugter was treated with this. As for her grandma,I had to get a presription for amoxal, as i had a seconderry infection. Sinus infection which prolonged the pink eye from going away. There is one more thing i forgot to mention, don't be afraid to get the solution in the eyes. It stings a bit but brings relief in the end. Everybody knows to change your pillow case every day and keep your bathrooms clean. don't forget the door knobs. I wish you all well.

Regular neosporin has the same ingidients as the version made for pink eye. The only difference is in packaging the product, in short it will work just as well.
