It would be expected that local Democrats would support Ralph but those are just a few that plan to support Ralph. There will be many voters that cross party lines and vote for Ralph.

This will be a very competitive race throughout the 25th District.

Roger, sorry to say this, becasue I like Ralph, but nobody outside Clay Co knows who he is, most of the voters in the 25th are from other counties. R Stivers will remain your senator so I wouldn't be burning any bridges, or making any enemies over this election. Have you seen all those pictures with Stivers and the Democratic Governor hanging out in the papers working together where the tornado's hit, yes thats part of Ralph's district. I'm surprised the state most powerful D's aren't jumping on board with Ralph, I get the feeling they're OK with the current republican set up in the senate, this way they have someone to blame for the failures. You have to understand if it was all Democrats it'd all be on them. Politics is one complicated mess isn't it.

One good thing whoever the next 25th district senator is he'll be from Clay County. and thats a good thing

ABC: The 25th is not a heavily populated Republican district and Ralph is well known among the Dem circles and they are hungry to take the seat. When you go beyond Clay and Knox, especially in the Wolfe, Magoffin, etc. you will find a strong Dem majority in those areas.

Robert has been effective in bringing projects, I concede that, but many people are ready for a change and I concur that either way Clay will maintain the seat at the table.

First, it's Stivers, not Sivers. You are wrong. You mark that down. With Obummer at the head of the ticket, a lot of people are voting straight Republican. Hasn't Obummer done enough to destroy coal and the tobacco business for you??? Roy Morgan has played out in Clay Co, he couldnt even win for county judge, and that was trying to buy it. His friends at Flat Creek took his money and bought votes for the his opponent. With John Ed Pennington on his side, that's another strike against him. You won't forget that will you????

For your information....Roy Morgan was not even at the meeting last night but I'm sure he will support Ralph 100 % and that means a lot of votes in Clay and Knox and also a straight ticket will definitely be pulled and it won't be in Stiver's favor because it will be the majority of the nations Democrats and many Republicans crossing over and that will be the straw that breaks the camels back and put Mr. Hoskins in the Senate. Write it down !!!!

I like Ralph, but usually if Roy Morgan is involved it is a clear sign to run in the other direction, given his very checkered political history in Clay County. I agree that Roy is damaged goods, and from what I understand it was more than Flat Creek people that took his money to help his opponent, as it supposedly happened in other precincts as well. Yep, he tried his hardest to buy a couple of elections and he still got turned away. That's how bad most of Clay County hated him.

For your information, I dont give a rat's ass if he was there or not. Doesnt matter who supports him he's not going to win. Ralph Hoskins tells too many lies and stabs too many people in the back. Now, let me address Roger from an earlier post. In the 2008 election, in Senate districts 1, 17, 23, and 25 the registration breaks down like this. First Dem. 26,430 Rep 22,650; 17th Dem 44,915 Rep. 32,547; 23rd Dem 31,857 Rep. 27,984; 25th Dem 32,613 Rep 36,650. The results...1st Rep Winters 26,430 Dem Hubbard 22,650 Carrol Hubbard was the U S Congressman for a few years in the first congressional district and lost. 17th Rep Thayer 31,835 Dem Powell 18,342. 23rd Rep Westwood 21,057 Dem Groob 20,250, 25th Rep Stivers 21,459 Dem Adkins 11,450. Now you try and expalin to us how Hoskins will overcome the majority registration in the 25th when a well know Carroll Hubbard couldnt win with Obummer on the ticket. Hoskins will lose big time, and you write them down.

Let me break it down a little further for you...Clay voted 5,873 Stivers 1265 Adkins, Knox voted 6849 for Stivers 3,374 for Adkins, Lee voted 1725 for Stivers 840 for Adkins, Magoffin voted 2,437 for Stivers 2,039 for Adkins, Morgan voted 2,298 for Stivers 1,Owsley voted 1,080 for Stivers 462 for Adkins, Wolfe voted 1,196 Stivers 1,634 for Adkins. Over five thousand voters would have to switch votes and that's not gonna happen. Obummers war on coal will defeat several Democrats, Hoskins included.

Actually, there is a path that could lead to Ralph winning. All you have to do is look at Knox and pOwsley counties.

Even though Republicans outnumber Democrats in those two counties, both of them have played turncoat in certain elections in recent years, voting majority Democrat. If he plays it fairly close in Clay County and doesn't lose by a huge blowout margin there, it's Game, Set, Match for a major reason. If Magoffin and Wolfe counties keep their normal voting patterns, they could cancel out whatever the vote count is in Leslie County, and if Owsley County vote majority Democrat, they could potentially take Lee County out of the fight. Knox and Owsley counties is who you'll have to keep your eyes on, as this Ralph is the first halfway serious opponent Stivers has had to run against in his entire political career, albeit an underfunded opponent compared to Stivers

As for who was and wasn't at Ralph's rally, for the most part who he is friends with doesn't really matter, as we all have at least one friend in our lives that most people don't like. It's good to have friends in your life, but there are certain ones that are best kept at arm's length. Just because certain people showed up doesn't necessarily mean that Ralph personally likes them. As we have seen in recent memory in Clay County, if any free food is being offered at a campaign event, even a number of your known enemies to your campaign will show up, if nothing else for the free food. It was seen in action at James Garrison's fish fries and at Kennon White's run for Jailer for a couple of examples.
