The proposed annexation appears to be no more than an attempt to get a larger citizen base (tax base) to help pay for the expensive mistakes made by former city administrations. The legality and finality of the WNT/Y Hollow purchase has left the city in need of increased revenues. The money paid thus far to the previous owners of the Y Hollow land has essentially only covered interest with the principal largely untouched. This project from "Father God" will haunt the city for years to come.
When a city government chooses to annex a larger area to spread good works and resources to a larger population for the benefit of that population it might be considered a benevolent act but when that annexation offers the new citizens nothing but increased taxes it is more akin to a weed spreading roots into fertile soil to promote it's own twisted growth.
I heard the city was paying on the Y property over 30 years. Might be $20,000 a year average and certainly not the reason for the proposed annexation. Manchester will likely receive a development grant or sell the property in the next few years to cover any remaining cost.

20 grand would not even come close to paying the interest my friend. 900000 at 4% apr would be about 37500 in interest.

I said an average over 30 years. It would be almost nothing for the final 10 years.

Sen. Stivers just provided $1.8 million for some road work in front of the Hacker School. That's twice the Y property, up front, and with much less value over time. This is an investment on the part of the city and a very good deal for them in the out years.

They paid octuple for the property what the previous buyers(family and friends of the city council) paid for it.

I doubt that would be considered a good investment. But hey, as long as the politicians make a nice dime off of it who cares. Right?

It was actually two and a half times with nothing up front and payment over time. That $100,000 amount I've read on here is nonsense.

214 Main I am so glad it's not just me that you dislike. I think a previous post summed it up for you. You would complain about something if the world was perfect. If your hatred toward people is so intense maybe you should leave the state and take your shiffy attitude with you. Instead of organizing groups to stand against the government maybe you should organize a group therapy to heal your bad attitude.

I am sorry sir but I don't know you. You are a man or a woman? You know I specifically made this name so all would know when I post. I had a crazy woman in the city council that swore up and down and lost sleep because she would have sworn I talked about her family or something along those lines, when I said it wasn't me she called me a liar. I know she got voted in by the people but I also made it clear in my postings that I said that those running the city are dysfunctional, now there is you talking like she does. WHO ARE YOU?

The y hollow is a liability and will cost the city substantially more than the near 1 million dollar purchase price due to the payment terms. some estimate $6 million to reclaim to a usable piece of land but for what. The economy is slow from coast to coast and all companies are moving jobs offshore because you and me want cheaper products. Any of you go to Dollar Tree? More importantly, we don't have an educated workforce with skills to meet the needs of the 21st century. There is no shortage of cities, counties and states across the U.S. begging for companies to bring them jobs and most of them have more to offer than southeast KY. A good start to get business and industry into our region would be a good clean up. Look at the filth we are surrounded by. Do you think the managers of these companies are willing to move here, live here and put their kids in our schools? We have too many officials looking for some great thing to fall from the sky (Waste Not Tech). We sit on our asses waiting for somebody to take care of us. Clean this son bitch up, set some realistic goals and don't expect a miracle. Get clean, get educated and get to work !

I just want to interject here to make sure all understand what this is and what it means to you. I am positive most missed this story because some stop buying the paper but also because your newspaper did a really good job putting the story on page 3 or 4 and it was very short. The mayor and most of the council members passed a ruling that all of Carmen Lewis's attorney fees would be paid by the city of Manchester.(That's you if you let them) Also if she loses (which she will) all court rulings, court cost with interest will be paid by you, the people of Manchester, which could be you again, if you let them.

Some of you can continue the song and dance that whoever sold the $900,000 piece of property is a great investor, thatís fine if you like being their sugar daddy for all these guys in office, I will leave that for you to decide.

What the city is doing and wants to do is make sure you share your money. They want to put their hands in your pocket and allow them to redistribute your wealth to all their buddies, as a matter of fact there are already some waiting for jobs as soon as they get the annexation passed. Donít forget that if you rent property a small sum goes to the city. Not much but then you have to remember, they didnít give you any sum to buy it. They will also not help you if you canít rent it. They are just their to collect with no risk to them, they just sit in their air conditioned or heated office and sit on their a** and wait for the money to come in. This is what they mean by keeping the money here. They will make sure they get their part and after you pay in full you get to spend what they decide to let you keep. By the way, the sweat you produce to make that money you can also keep. This is like a legal mafia. You have to pay for doing business on their turf or in some cases just because you fell in their web and live there.

All these jobs they produce is for their family members, friends, associates, neighbors, itís how they keep power. Itís another form of unethical behavior that they want to implement. If you remember they had a bunch go to jail for vote buying and going to jail really wasnít in their plan. So letís think about this, I want to keep power and I want to stay in office so what would be another way to do that? Well, itís easy get your money which they call taxes and give to their people who will vote for them in a form of a job with vacations, pensions, sick days, well, you get the story. By the way some of these jobs are far better than private sector jobs, which you work in. I recently found in my county alone which they did a way with the employees were getting 12 days sick days a year. How many farmers get that? How many with real jobs get that benefit? Thatís one day off every month and that does not include the rest of their benefits. My county is broke but so is your city. Not because it was your fault but because these people wasted the money and now want more so they can spend more. Donít let them take your liberties away. Their goal is to make you work for them; they want you to be slaves to them. What they donít understand is they are supposed to work for you not you working for them. Those that say itís moving forward are the ones that were promised jobs on your dime. Donít fall for it. You already saw them move forward before and they went broke. Stop adding gasoline to the fire!

We don't want or need your help. Keep fighting your fights and stay out of business that doesn't involve you. You got bigger problems in your own county that you need to take care of. Nobody here wants to hear your Chicago solutions.

The Mayor is out of control! There is no way to justify this. I have not read the thread and I am sorry if I stepped on anybody who wrote the same thing I am about to write but why in the world would any of the people living outside the city limits want to join a corrupt city like Manchester? Look around you, it's all full of cronyism, nepotism. The city is dysfunctional. Who in their right mind would want to join? Not even the employees that the Mayor has in his office live in city limits. Why would you need a police force when most have a gun in their possession? What does the city offer? Here's the good news because I know it's going to pass, I know King George will have his way because he rules with those that vote with him and not serve. The good news is now is your chance to change the whole city around and vote every one out, just don't ever forget and find good people who believe in freedom and liberty and get those people out of office. Taxes is a form of slavery, they have you working for them, they no longer work for you. I tried to get people to understand but as I can see it's too late. You had to object long before this, you had to let them know you were always watching. Sorry, I can't join to help, I got busy with my own fight and loving every minute of it. I hate to say it, and I don't like doing this but I told you so, how many times did I find myself alone with just a few police in the city council meetings? Don't ask, good luck! You can find me on facebook, look for "Stand with the Sheriff" By the way if you don't believe me when I said to join me look at my past post. I tried, God knows I tried to warn you. I know where they got this idea and it's all part of a bigger plan to have more control of every aspect of your life. I am warning you now, I know what's coming and you are not going to like it. Psst... They don't even care if you move out, there are people in this country and you should know this by now that should be alien to you and me, it's not what our founders wanted. It's not American. Some of you were focused on the wrong things that you thought were so important, that was just a smoke screen.

City Council member! vote that in and your days of acting like you are somebody are numbered. You will not be voted in again. Just watch and listen to what they say. I might even attend with some popcorn. You are not the sharpest pencil in the box, you are 5 cans short of a 6 pack. Try to debate me on any issue, please!

Why would anybody want to debate you/ What public office do you hold? You are nothing but a outsider looking for trouble. I think we know what our city needs better than someone like you. I know you think because you are from Chicago, you are smarter than any of us Kentucky people but you aren't. I have seen the video's of you and Denny Peyman, I've talked with a few Jackson Countains that feel the same way about you as I do. You don't care about anybody from Manchester or Jackson County, you want the reporters to follow you. When the bright lights of the camera are off, you go into your better than anybody mode. Your political views might work in Chicago but not here.

Why expand Manchester, the heart of it looks like it needs to be tore down and rebuilt. Make the town look decient and maybe someone might want to be a part of it. you might get away with calling it a town, but it's sure not a City.
