You are totally incorrect, I am a member of the city council, not an elected official, and have never ran for any office.

I work everyday and pay my taxes and only have legitimate concern for your and my community

My commentary is intended to be positive in nature and founded in the premise that we can do better. Sustainable economic development is the answer to create growth and opportunity for everyone in our community. Larger city size can mean increased awareness of our city and potential for growth.

I oppose increased taxes that are not utilized to improve the community. If the council does not appropriate and expend funds in a reasonable manner then it is your and my responsibility as informed and concerned citizens to hold them accountable and vote them out.

Did you notice the last census, we lost nearly 2000 citizens. We need a pro-growth agenda that will help us to avoid a census nightmare in 2020.

Apparently "Stan" is on the city council or something. We are already taxed to death in this state right now. We are one of the highest taxed states in the country. We don't need our county taking more money out of our paychecks too. It means more occupational, property, and other taxes for those that are annexed. I've had enough of it. If we get annexed, I will sell my home and I've talked to others who will do the same. What Clay County is doing is pushing people out of Manchester instead of bringing people into it. This is just another excuse to pay for things they can't afford just like others have said, and butter the pockets of the crooks who run this town. I say that anyone who is going to possibly be annexed show up at any meetings and complain like hell!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently I am not incorrect! You are stating that you are a member of the city council. That's exactly what I said, and you have just backed up my argument. We have lost people, just as I said. You know I am right. You can make all the excuses you want, but this town will not prosper. It's all about location. And unless we get Route 66 through here, or some other major connection route, it's never going to grow and you know it.

I think STAN was meaning to say he wasn't a council member ,that is why he tried to correct his omission of NOT, I am glad i don't live in the city limits because i would hate to let my tax dollars go to keeping people like the mayor and that big hog jawed John Ed Pennington up

Please correct me if I am wrong but Joe Asher the County Judge hired Earl (Country Earl) Owens as a PR Man for the County to bring in hopefully new business and jobs for Clay County. How has that worked out ? If the County can't talk any business to locate in Clay County how is George going to get them to move to a nasty, out of the way strip pit (Y Hollow)? Now I know talk is cheap and some locals could turn a profit building the bridge to Y Hollow but as it has turned out people has caught on to the lies that has and is still being told about Y Hollow. You hear the Mayor talk about places like Winchester and Georgetown and how they do business and how Manchester could be like them or some how a giant lake could be built to make Manchester like Somerset. But the fact is no one that holds a office in Clay County knows how to do anything to better our County or City. They spent tax payers money on foolish things then say this is what we had to do to get business to come to our county and town. Now their broke and looking for a quick fix to keep the foolish spending up. I say give the strip pit (Y Hollow) back to James Phillips and company and stop paying several thousand dollars a month to James for intrest on the $900,000.00 they still owe to him. Sale the Golf Course and give the swimming pool to the County and focus on cleaning up the nasty downtown area. We could have a small clean little town to be proud of with the right leadership to make it happen, but all we get is lies and dirty deals and pipe dreams slapped in our face.

I see that now. I'm still right in my argument though. People are leaving this county and this will make more move.

Once again, I will reiterate that positive and competent leadership, creative and innovative solutions have helped other to invigorate, grow, and develop.

We, yes I say we, can work collectively to make change happen. We can do better, but we must hold elected official accountable.

Every city tax dollar collected and then allocated must be to the benefit of essential services, improving the downtown area, moving toward condmenation of dangerous and unkept properties, we must work to improve the PR image of our community, we must work toward sustainable economic development.

There are challenges and opportunities, but naysayers and negative commentary does not provide solutions.

Including the golf course within city could improve visitations and usage as well as rentals for special events.

Y hollow, although a signigicant purchase mistake must be reinvented into something that is available for use and works for the benefit of the community.

We currently have no proactive effort to increase positive public perceptions about our community. Other locales work to improve their image and alot of that effort goes to showcase good things and eliminate and/or mediate the negatives.

Freedom of speech is one of the great gifts our fathers, brothers, loved ones, fought and died for so we the people would have the right to protest or approve something. I for one think the City and for that matter the County officials have no real plans to improve anything. Throwing more taxpayers money on one bad investment after another is wrong! Yes I dream of a Manchester with lot of jobs and folks from other areas wanting to come here to vacation and spend money but it's just a dream. Manchester is not a Winchester or Georgetown and probably never will be. Yet with good sound judgement and proper leadership our small little town could be something to be proud of. George and all of the City Council needs to focus and set goals only for what is in the City limits. Let the County officials worry about the rest of Clay County. The truth is the working people that live in Manchester and Clay County are taxed to death. Some poor working folks just scrape by from paycheck to paycheck. Trying to make The City limits larger to get more tax money is not the answer. The answer is for the City to live within their means just like everyone else. I remember when City Hall was located by the park. The city owned that building and had free gas also, but that was not good enough or big time enough for our City officials so they had to rent the old bank building in downtown for a thousand plus dollars per month. I'm sorry that the City is almost broke but its easy to do if you don't stop the foolish spending practice and stop trying to be a Georgetown or Somerset.

Clay County should look into a casino that would bring in hundred's of jobs and good paying jobs at that. I have seen all over the United States that it helps a lot of struggling county's, now that the county is wet they could ad all kinds of new business and where there are a casino there is hotels, bars and newer restaurant's, newer streets and more tax revenue. I know that people say that crime rate go's up but C.C is already up. I know it helped saved alot of small towns all over the U.S. Just a thought.

You could have jesus christ leading this county or city and unless the people want change it will never happen. I get tickled at how it always stan who keeps saying we need leaders, look at the leaders the people elected to lead this countryand what a shape it is becoming, an you think we got leaders around here that would do something benefical to this place. Look i sure like to see this place change but facts are people around here could carelss about anything other then keping what they got, not loosing there government benefits and excepting things the way they are. i have talked to people a lot older then i am and they can tell you how things was back in there time and they not no different then today.
I am sorry but when younger kids are raised up to how things operate around here they like there parents except it as how its going to be and nothing you say or do changes that fact. Then on the other hand you have got a certain group that at the first sign of something changing they are the first to start trying to take either advantage of it or belittling it with jealously, envy or fear. Let me ask you all something, seeing i am no genius and am a realist our lack of easy acess either from rail, higway, water or air, being suround by mostly other poor counties with same problem is a big disadvantage. Just look at london, corbin and even hazard they lot better shape then us and they got all the above things state we lack. You can blame it on whatever you like but it comes down to the fact people lack any drive to get change, access to our county is just from a couple higways that are not equipped to handle large traffic, so untill people change and our acess to transportation improves we will remain a small suffering community. This guy talking about a large lake, seems like a few years ago they was anattempt to have one but people fought it so like th airport that onced was going to build here it was killed by greedy people.
